Hardmoors Race series

The Woldsman is a great event (east yorkshire ldwa) Ive run 3 of them on the old route (Beverley-Market Weighton etc) and 2 on the new route (better plus tougher) I truly reccomend it, and I will be running it again in April (usualy end of April) this event is why I have never done the Fling. (too close to the Woldsman and the Woldsman is about 250 miles nearer to me) The Hardmoors route is a lot lot tougher though and a lot more scenic in my opinion then the Woldsman (ran the Hardmoors twice now, usually most of that section is done in the dark, but Ive recced the route a dozen times in the daylight) if I remember correctly it was thick snow last year on the Cleveland Hills around that time, even without the snow the winds on Roseberry topping etc will be bloody strong, so open around there, where the Wolds are a bit more sheltered, So for toughness and overall race experience then I reckon Hardmoors would be the one, but you should run the Woldsman as well defo, we will have to meet up on the day guts what do you think??

It would be a shame if the Hardmoors needed motorised Support and was part of the Vasque seiries, as that would count me out, as much as i would like to do the Hardmoors i will not do an event where Motorised back up is needed as IMO the Logistics, and often antagonism caused to locals / Landowners etc by a large in-flux of vehicles and people in often sensitive areas, really detract from the ethos of a challenge, particulary where there are adequate checkpoints which would enable bag drops for competitors to forward on what they feel they may require.

I have done the WHW race with motorised backup and TBH i feel that the race`s future is threatened by the strain put on sensitive areas, 150 competitors is one thing throw in another 300 + (300 being the minimum) support crew and there vehicles and the strain in sensitive areas is obvious..

As much as I can see the Hardmoors55 is an unsupported event, there is a drop bag option and a bus back to the start, there is also the talk of the Hardmoors110 becoming an unsupported event as well (well I think a choice of having a support crew or using drop bags) I suppose the hard thing with the 110 is it isnt a circular route and people finish anytime within 15 hours of each other.

I can't see any race that requires motorised support being in the Vasque series. I think that races in the series should be competitive. Any race that requires motorised support isn't competitive as it's only open to those who know people who are willing to waste a day driving around after someone. I think races in a series (any series) need to be open to everyone with adequate physical ability.

I think there's a difference between allowing motorised support and requiring it and I think the latter should be discouraged.

Found out last night that the HARDMOORS 55 is the first race in the long section of the Runfurther series.
Chatted to John Steele (the race organiser) seems a real nice guy. The event is unsupported, runners park at the finish location (Guisborough), are then picked up by coach and taken to the start (Helmsley) then a drop bag system is in place for certain checkpoints.
