Back in the day, Yorkshire Thug could rustle a few feathers and Gaz1462 (or some similar number) was good for the odd socialist rant but I think the CL/Heathens scrap has been pretty unique.

I miss Gaz. He returned as comrade gaz then i am fairly sure he came back again under another userneme. Whatever happened to him? Is he still out there in deepest Yorkshire delivering letters and scattering red bands all over the countryside?

As you say he rustled a few feathers but it was mostly done tongue in cheek, not with the unpleasentness that has invavded the forum recently. It was a simpler time back in the early days of the forum in 2005

It's been a strange time for this forum. Up till now I've very much of the view that I won't post anything in those confrontational threads because I'm not interested. Live and let live, stay out of it, let them get on with it etc etc

But it seems to have spread across a number of threads and has become a feature of this forum, something that a newcomer would readily see and see as prominent. It may even be seen as representative, despite mainly involving a small number of people.

I'm not suggesting anyone has tried to take over the forum or that the forum should not be the home of some good debates, be they fellrunning debates or otherwise, but I'm personally really tired of this spat between CL and TH popping up/being referenced across many threads in this forum. I'm also worried that others are wading in and the negative vibe is spreading.

Noone's done anything wrong, but seriously, please can you two just drop it? Argue about things, stuff, opinions if you like, but it's turned into a series of personal character assassinations and insults and it's getting very tiresome. CL and TH are both clever guys that probably aren't used to losing arguments - hence the deeply unpleasant stalemate we now see.

So chaps, please, just stop the bitching and oneupmanship and allow the fellrunners forum to be just that. Let it go and agree to differ. Otherwise, rather than impressing people with your repostes, you'll drive them away. If the forum does continue to be an ego-fest, I'll certainly start logging in less and less.

Try looking at threads like this through the eyes of a newcomer to the forum logging on for the first time this morning.

How long would it take for them to say to themselves 'What a bag of shite this forum is' and leave, probably for good

I agree entirely Tony. I just can't see the point in all of this? It would be a nicer place if compliments and positives could be given instead of slanderings! We are all here because we love a common subject....let's appreciate what we have got and respect each others feelings.

And please leave Noone out of this...he's done nothing wrong...he's just a behing!
