Here's an idea people. I have just read TT's link and as is journalists want they have described the film as a cross between Touching the void and Man on a wire. Now how about we play this game. My two films it would be a cross of are Ultramarathon man and the madness of king george.
I've already been approached to play the romantic lead role...

Personally....i'd love to see a film about our sport.
Im constantly banging on about it to everyone i know and they all think im off my rocker. Nodobut 99% of the population would think similar things and surely having a film about it - if its done properly - will only make them think we are ever wierder....
I'd be more worried that it just wouldnt truly show what the sport is like, they are going to have to make it good for the viewing audience and there bound to be things missed out/made easier to make the film a success.
So only time will tell....if it gets made i'd love to see it.....if it promotes our sport then we cant complain....more competition!......if it make people think we are nutters with big bushy beards then it would make me ever prouder of our wonderful sport.

I do think we do have to watch the numbers involved in this sport, but mainly for the environmental impact.
Was speaking to someone who would be described as 'old guard' after the Tour on Sunday. He was telling me that all the lines round Pendle are now so well worn, it's a world away from even 10 yrs ago where you had to have great local knowledge or good nav skills (or be quick enough to keep up with someone who is either of the above). It's now 'like a motorway' on some of the lines.
I don't think this is just a typical response when faced with change either, but a legitimate problem. The fact that a couple of the lines were rerouted on the Tour on Saturday due to soil erosion backs this up. The Bob Graham routes are the same (so I've been told by someone with good authority)
There's also the danger that it may attract more people just for the challenge, without the genuine love of the hills and the sport. This could then lead to gel wrappers on the hills, queue jumping at stiles, etc. because they just don't get the ethos.
Overall though I reckon it's in this nation's interest to know there are weird eccentrics still about who choose to put themselves through what we do...for fun!! It's what made Britain great. I also still maintain that most people will look at it and say 'stuff that for a game of soldiers!'
Whats the problem with anyone new coming into the sport? why does it need to be some kind of exclusive club?
I personally cannot see any issue with producing a film, if it is done right, and the dangers are highlited.
