    Re: Today's poet

    Another two from Mumbai:

    little darting fish
a lone kite reflects the glow
    of night-time Mumbai

    Honda heros

    carried through the streets
    on latter day white chargers
    glittering women

one from a 30hour train journey south to Kerala:

    vivid green rice fields
    a flight of snow-white egrets
    the train rattles through

    two from Kochi:

    silken tongued sitar
    and an insistent tabla
    incite me to dream

    from a dark doorway
    sharp shock of a kingfisher
    woman in sari

Blimey! How are you doing? Can't wait to hear the haiku. Too hot to run hey!? It snowed again this morning here again.

Have safe travels and hope to hear some more from you soon

Hey everyone, forgot to mention...have picked up some Indian contemporary poetry books. Some amazing work. Here is a taste of poetry from Tamil Nadu. This is by Ka Mohanarangan

    The Gulf

    I tried
    To capture in paper
    The nameless, still bird
    In my garden
    For you.

    But
    Between
    What I ought to say
    And what I did
    The bird
    Had taken to wings.

Hes! good to see you back here (from afar). I loved this poem, and your Haiku travelogue conjures up some fine pictures. 30 hour journeys do not appear to have blunted your talent. I can imagine a train full of swarthy people, and an English girl looking out of the window whilst counting syllables on her fingers! By the way - far too hot to run here too.

I love that. Very honest! The starlings here have been doing their swirly thing this week just as it is going dark. It is proving a tricky sight to capture in poetry without wanting to resort to words like twirly, swirly, curly wurly etc etc.

It sounds like you've had an inspiring trip so far.

Any of you guys live near Edale as i am going for a stroll around some of the skyline course as i find walk recceing generally gives me a more accurate picture and means i can concentrate on my running when i am training on the skyline as i have already soaked in more of the route by taking it easy on recce missions. This may not be everyones cup of tea but works for me. Plus i feel a bit crappy so should blow out cobwebs from my mind.
