That's a happier one. Well found.

I'm constantly having formatting problems when I cut and paste.

I still think Turbo Tom's is the best

Little cullud Rastus come a-skippin’ down de street,
    A-smilin’ and a-grinnin’ at every one he meet;
My, oh! He was happy! Boy, but was he gay!
Wishin’ “Merry Chris’mus” an’ “Happy New-Year’s Day”!
Wishin’ that his wishes might every one come true—
And—bless your dear heart, honey,—I wish the same to you!

    That's better

I agree...this one below seemed to start all promising but then...

    when the new year

    by Rg Gregory

    when the new year
    came out of nowhere
    and peeped into rooms
it was so flattered to find
all the tv's drinking its health
    praising its innocent appearance
    it responded with its warm
    dark smile and went round
    filling people's dry hearts
    with joy

    over the coming weeks though
    those same tv's attacked it
    criticising its puerile style
    its sickly contemptible face
one year is the same as another
    (they said) for the doom
    time belabours us with
    it took the year all
    its length to discover
    that the celebration
    so welcoming its birth
    just happened to be
    where the beer was

I actually think that is quite funny. It is difficult to know whether that was written in all seriousness or not. A good find anyway.

    Want another laugh...read on...

A Freckly New Year To Ya All

Why are all New Year Poems so sad?
You'd think to have survived so far we'd be glad.
And yet these poets go on and moan and moan,
In the most sombre, dreary monotone.

So let's look and try and muster some cheer,
And I don't mean just guzzle a lot more beer.
No, come on, it can't all be bad,
Reflect on those good times you also had.

Okay, okay, I'm no raving Polly-Anna,
And fate does sometimes throw in that spanna (sorry!)
But look what our own Freckle's done
She's created a thread that's run and run.

It's captured the spirit of those who love to run the fells,
And we've all drank deep from those poetical wells,
It's bolstered companionship and made new cyber-mates,
And shown two fingers at life's lugubrious fates.
    Am Yisrael Chai

    Now that is just class.

I raise a glass in one hand, and two fingers with the other.

There was a new thread on the forum,
That some would have thought would just bore ‘em.
    It started so quiet,
    Turned into a riot,
    And quickly lost all decorum.

    Hi there

just found this interesting interview iwth slyvia plath on You tube (yes, I know what you are thinking...on new years's eve?)...good insight into how she writes, her views on english poetry at the time and ofcourse that characteristic voice of hers which oozes charisma and misery and intelligence all in one....

    for the hardened plath fans!
