Well, we had another good 10 cms over night, that is a good 4 inches for you guys... Could not get the car out, so had to ride the crosser to work, as work needs to get done

First exercise since the ruddy chest infection and managed the ride without falling off in a coughing fit, so that is progress

Also Schwalbe Landcruisers are the d*gs b*ll*cks on compacted snow

I seroiusly don't think motoring organisations do enough to publicise their existance and accessibility, they're too busy trying to keep you indoors. Just get some steel wheels that are compatible with your car from a scrappy, fit the tyres and leave them in the shed until you need them. Not trying to be too preachy here but we're going to see more and more of these freak cold snaps because the climate is destabilising.

Yes, that is really weird in this country... In the Netherlands we all use them in winter... I mean, you would not go out in snow and ice without a grippy shoe or without knobbly tyres on your bike, would you? So why keep slicks on your car????

Same in Germany, its the law, you have to have a set of Winter tyres on wheels ready to go, and your summer ones go into storage for a few months

We don't usually get snow on this island warmed by the sea so we're not used to snow tyres.
It's snowing again here in south Manchester. I measured 6" depth last night in my back garden. It's the most I've ever known in a single fall.

I was ringing round yesterday to local tyre dealers trying to get some winter tyres but they kept saying they could not get hold of any. Two of my tyres were quite worn so I was going to change them for tyres that were good in snow and then later do what Mr Brightside suggested and get a couple of second hand steel wheels for the future. I only want to get off the estate and get back on as main roads are reasonable for travelling on round here provided you take it carefully. Everybody must have the same idea at the moment.
