    Well perhaps it is about raw feeling instead of academic and literary excellence. It is far to easy to get caught up in using big words but nothing catches a moment in time as well as simple, rythmical vocabulary.

    To be honest, I have never wanted to be anyone else because by my reckoning, most poets that I love and admire had really tough lives in some way or other, broken hearts, killed in the war, suicidal, died from consumption, stony broke, starving etc. Maybe that is why their work is so poignant and creative. I wouldn't have minded being a muse for one or two though.

    Too true TT. If it is hard to write, then you are writing about the wrong thing.

    Re: Today's poet

    I think I will head off for my bath now. Night everyone and thanks for a lovely evening!

    Bath-Song

    Sing hey! For the bath at close of day
    that washes the weary mud away
    A loon is he that will not sing
    O! Water Hot is a noble thing!

    O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain,
    and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
    but better then rain or rippling streams
    is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

    O! Water cold we may pour at need
    down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed
    but better is beer if drink we lack,
    and Water Hot poured down the back.

    O! Water is fair that leaps on high
    in a fountain white beneath the sky;
    but never did fountain sound so sweet
    as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

    Favourite

    When they ask me, "Who's your favourite poet?"
    I'd better not mention you,
    Though you certainly are my favourite poet
    And I like your poems too.
