    William Butler Yeats - When You Are Old

    When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
    And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
    And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
    Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

    How many loved your moments of glad grace
    And loved your beauty with love false or true,
    But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
    And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

    And bending down beside the glowing bars,
    Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
    And paced upon the mountains overhead
    And hid his face amid a crowd of stars
    Poacher turned game-keeper

    Don't forget there are junior races every week at the Kendal Winter League. (plug, plug) Then virtually every weekend from May to October with BOFRA. All very family friendly events. I'll be about at some and can thoroughly recommend them. There are even some good mid week races on at the shows in September.

    Just so lovely....gets me every time....did you know that when Yeats was 23 he apparently met and fell in love with a beautiful Irish nationalist called Maud Gonne. She refused to marry Yeats but became the object of his passion and his poetry. It has been said that the emotional power of his early poems are shaped by the one sidedness of his affair with Maud, but the poems themselves remain hopeful and bittersweet....aw

    W. B. Yeats

    The Pity of Love

    A pity beyond all telling
    Is hid in the heart of love:
    The folk who are buying and selling,
    The clouds on their journey above,
    The cold wet winds ever blowing,
    And the shadowy hazel grove
    Where mouse-grey waters are flowing,
    Threaten the head that I love.

    Yep. There is a list of authors somewhere and I'm sure you are on there. I tried to include as many people as possible.
