I was on the "Valleys" a couple of days ago and conditions were good . Since then we've had a very small amount of snow . I think temperatures are going to get warmer later in the week so hopefully that will all have melted by Sat/Sun . I'll probably go up later in the week and have a shuffty . Did a recce yesterday. About 3" for the majority of the route. Still not even close to the depths of last years race conditions. Looking like a thaw during the coming days as well.
went and a had a bit of a look yesterday afternoon, glad there were a few footprints in the snow to follow. Pretty sure what snow there is will have melted by the weekend. looking forward to next Sunday now!!! i think!!!
Do you think I would be alright doing this one for my first real fell race?
Only ever done the Cannock trig race which was 1500 feet. This one is 4500 feet.
I have done Wuthering hike and was about mid pack finish.
Christ ! I think I'd have died if I'd have done this one as my first . Then again , I only started a couple of years ago and I was a stone heavier when I started to when I did the Mynd last year . And , I'm still a tad over weight (no laughing please).It's a bloody tough one . The last third is the hardest .
How fit are you ? Why don't you do Titterstone clee the day before as a tester ?

I've done a couple of marathons in around 3:30 and recced the kentmere and Borrowdale races a couple of times and the Longmynd Hike last october.
There was a chap I finished the same time as in this years trig race and he came about half way up in last years Long Mynd valleys.
The number of races I can do in a year is quite limited with family commitments and all that so I'd rather just do tough or longer races to get my monies worth.
I want to get more hill work in before the Wuthering Hike and the Fellsman in May which will be the biggy for me this year.
I was going to say that it was my first, but actually it was my third, in 2004, having previously done Box Hill and Titterstone Clee. It was a 'baptism of fire' and although my times have improved quite a bit since then it's still a tough race. As nightingale says, the last third is the hardest. I think most people would agree that road race times are not really a guide to LMV performance. There is another thread somewhere where the race has been discussed in detail.

Good luck if you do . You may see me towards the end of the pack (I'm not very quick) Hoping to get under 3 hours this year .
Just copied the route to memory map to put on the garmin and yes the last third does look a bit steep but thats what I'm after. Something a bit hilly.
I'll probably start at the back of the pack and stay there. See how I feel
