I don't think the navigation is that difficult on these events in general and I'm in 2 minds whether I should recce or not. In favour - I get cross with myself if I go wrong and it does waste a lot of time, but what appears to be simple navigation under normal circumstances isn't quite so straight forward when you've been running for 12, 24 etc hours and of course in the dark things look different. Against - one of the other perils of these events is trying to stay awake at the end and having to navigate gives you something to do!
You are spot on Socks the navigation early on is not difficult, and having the focus of having to navigate in the latter stages is a boost, as it takes your mind off of the Fatigue etc, that pretty much sums up why i never bother with a recce, plus no recce = no room for complacency and i need to stay in tune.
I have pretty much naved it while plotting the route on my maps, looks like it should be pretty interesting, and we know the food will be good, Hope there is some Haggis to be had.
Just back from a week's recce.....interesting! Route finding not too bad at all, the section in the dark (for most) should be fairly easy, with a fair bit of road.
Some excellent views, particularly around Schiehallion and Beinn a Ghlo.
Not sure what it will be like at Easter, but there were still some very snowy sections so we ended up avoiding some of the higher ground, but still covered over 70 miles of the route.
Oh, and Moley, sorry to hear you're not able to make it....but I know someone on the waiting list who's hoping to pinch one of those two "new" places!
I think these guys always put together a nice event.
Planning to do Trollers Trot on Sat.
Anyone travelling up to Grassington from the Huddersfield area want to share transport?
I'd like to go back and explore that area more, over the summits.
By the way, if you're planning a recce, I believe some of the section around the shoulder of Schiehallion is having to be re-routed due to concerns of landowners, so the route will change from that we printed off the website.
Also, you'll find the last 1/2 mile along the river into Dunkeld is closed, due to a landslide on the path....instead of crossing the bridge by Ossians Hall, continue with the river on your right, and you can rejoin by the Forestry offices.
Can't help with the car-share, but I can put you on the list
