This perenial 'what footwear for the 3 peaks' question really really gets on my wick . Every year people ask and I, knowing the route really quite well, like to point out just how difficult going it can be and every.. flipping.. year.. without.. fail.. April is really dry weather wise and the trainer/trail shoe brigade prove themselves right yet again.

I stubbornly refuse to wear anything other than fell shoes

we ran the 3 peaks yesterday as prep for the High Peak Marathon, you would have been better suited with crampons and ice axes yestarday as the weather was very unpleasent.

you could hardly recognise the 3 summit,s

Roclite 312 GTX's or 320's for me. Never failed me yet.

I would say, pick the shoes that are going to be most comfortable for you personally over the distance.

    Yorkshire 3 Peaks

Anyone know what conditions are like up there at the moment? I'm guessing there'll be some snow on the tops, just wondering how much.

    Cheers

    Re: Yorkshire 3 Peaks

We were up there two weeks ago, so I'm not sure of the conditions now. We did Whernside & Ingleborough, both had plenty of snow on the tops.
Whernside was OK really but Ingleborough was quite a bit worse. Going was OK until you come off the pavement onto the climb itself. The path basically disappeared half way up & we resorted to tracking across to the wall & going up the side of that, snow was probably 2-3 ft deep in places on the face.

The top of Ingleborough was treacherous, a bit of snow sat on top of shot ice, made it fun coming back from the trig!

If Pendle this weekend is anything to go by, I would suggest conditions on PPP are still not great.

    Re: Yorkshire 3 Peaks

Cheers. Interesting! The climb up Ingleborough's not exactly pleasant at the best of times. I'm hoping to do the 3 on Saturday, so hopefully might be a bit improved with some decent weather this week. Although it looks like getting colder again for the weekend. Still, it could be worse. I could be doing the HPM...
