I ran all the way up the first climb and was feeling pretty pleased with myself but from then on must have dropped 30 places. I wasn't done in but I just can't pick way across that terrain and descend as fast as you boys - it really is an art.

I'm with you on that Lamber - My first real fell race, apart from doing the PBR & Barley & Kelbrook Fell. I've been training up there a fair bit but this racing lark's massively different to road racing!

I tried to take it "reasonably" steady to start & had a decent climb to CP1 & even my run down the snow wasn't too bad. But I just couldn't get a rhythm on the narrow track after the stile, got passed by about 6 people on there.
Then again managed to pick the pace a bit better on the drop to the nick & Churn Clough, but the climb back to Spence took my legs from me. Managed to run to Geronimo, but unfortunately the adrenaline didn't take over as hoped & I consequently came down there like a pussy. I even resorted just to laying down near the bottom, I thought "sod it it's going to be quicker on my arse" so I did just that!!!

Hey ho, had a great time, it was just the shock I needed to prepare for the PPP. I was still pleased with my time 1.26.31 but my legs felt like I'd run a marathon!

Well done to all who finished & big thanks to marshals & organisers!

Hehe cheers mate, aye healthy competition is good for getting better

I'm just glad I've finally worked out how to race properly lol, sounds weird, but I was too happy to get into a nice groove and not push myself enough, a sort of long distance plod mode

Well done on the HPM too

Bet you'll be back for more action next year, or maybe the full later this year!
    Gerinimo? That descent?

Er enjoy? ... I'll pass on that. Yes I'll definitely be back.

I'm planning to do the Buckden Pike fell race in June so some descending practise will be in order in advance of that.

Matey I did 1 hour 26 mins 25 secs so you must have been right behind me. Yes that sounds just like my race. I was going at a pace that felt right after the stile but there were plenty of fell dudes who went past me, I moved over to let them go as it seemed the right thing to do. Geronino, yes I went down like a big wuss too! I thought discretion was the greater part of valour!

Great fun though, seasoned fell runner recommended I take my first year in the sport as purely getting experience and just running to enjoy it. Sound advice I think.
