I know no-one's said they're coming on this, but given that sometimes people just turn up, I'd better post that plans have changed. Can't do early morning start, but will be doing this after lunch now.
Possibly 1400. Will hopefully be able to confirm later.
Would have loved this and right up my street a favourite MTB spot of mine from Worsthorne and up the Gorple Rd. to the reservoirs then joining the Mary Towneley Loop. Wonderful if you can catch first light and popular with landscape photographers early doors.
Plotted the route in OS 25,000; looked interesting. Printed out a few copies for the run and when asked by Mrs Chubbs as to what they were for, quite innocently explained, to which she smiled and replied "THIS SUNDAY; absolutely fine."
Now I'am not sure if it was the tone in her voice or the way she was clutching the bread knife but I think it best all round if I give this a miss, so to run another day.![]()
Note to self; it is not a good idea to refer to the other half as Mrs Chubbs.![]()
Probably for the best: I'm going armed with a home-made map, which, after the last time we hit these parts together, wouldn't fill you with much confidence!

Well, I didn't get lost: my map was genius! Will scan it at some point for you to marvel at.
However decision to go off piste was a disaster: had a long slog up through knee high heather and got to a 'bridleway' which was nothing of the sort. Just tussocky crap with a patchy line of bog to follow. As well as slowing me down (when I cut it short I'd done 7mi in 2hrs! That was HPM pace!), it also served to aggravate my knee (another reason I only did the southern half of the loop). So not great.
Started off on proper paths and when I could run, it was great. -I also mapped Howarth Hobble and saw the lines this took in the area, which after Sunday I know to be good too.
I won't give up. Just need to do a bit more exploring. Back to the ol' drawing board...![]()
Quite possibly, what do you think? (If you can see it)
