20 min to spare - cut off is 2:30

it does seem a mean cut off. probably makes the back end of the field twice as slow in the 2nd half from killing themselves to make it.

The obvious (?) point was that the expected weather would make it very uncomfortable and sweaty to run in a full waterproof, whereas a pertex style windproof would be much more effective in keeping the runner dry. The addition of a foil blanket in the bumbag would help protect the runner against heat loss in case they are reduced to a walk by an injury.

Did you get it this time?

Do you want me to use shorter words, perhaps draw a diagram for you?
    Easy AndyA-hole,

    who's getting all excited now?

I completely understood what you were saying and, although a fair point, compulsory kit is just that... compulsory, but there's always someone who wants to moan about it. It means that race organisers can be 100% confident that folk have what they need on the hills. Start giving either/or options, making last minute changes or trying to second guess (that's all a long-range forecast is) the weather and you're asking for a visit from Mr Cock-up, people turning up with the wrong kit and arguments on the day.

Keep it simple, re-inforce it and life is easy. It's then up to the individual, if they feel there are better options for the prevailing conditions, to carry that extra kit.

the foil blanket & bag I have are both a lot heavier and bulkier than my waterproof - so I'd rather take the latter as an emergency option (on top of the pertex, which I agree is the most practical bit of kit), also cos in extreme winter conditions I might actually run in it.

Oh and a bum-bag that's airtight and will double as a flotation device...

    Re: Edale Skyline 2010

Other than the wind, forecast on MWIS looks good... but the ground is saturated in Sheffield this morning, so I assume it's the same on top?

I was going to run in trail shoes (New Balance 840s) as my feet are a bit sore at the moment, but am now considering fell shoes again.... Aargh - decisions!

Probably going for the 2 jackets approach though, pertex to run in, and cheap but sealed waterproof if I get hurt.
