Had a read of route and look at map. Down to Osmoth isn't too bad, I've managed vit no probs at end of Phoenix twice and there may be the odd Cleveland Way sign tooI agree the Guisborough woods bit could be tricky, lots of little twists and turns in route descrip that you can't see on a map.

I practised the last 20 miles of the route of a few weeks ago and didn't find the route through Guisborough Woods tricky at all (that's assuming i went the right way!). The paths all made sense and were straightforward. I guess it might be different when it's getting dark and exhaustion's a factor though. I'm just a bit irked that having worked out the route from Slapewath to the cricket club, the course has now changed!

Great event and well organised. Thanks to all the organising team and especially to the marshalls who were camped out in those damp chilly conditions.
Well done to everyone who finished, and commiserations to those who didn't - it was a tough course made tougher by the weather.
This morning my legs ache all over; one knee is sore but my feet are fine - not even any pressure sores.
Thanks Karen, for the company from Osmotherly - kept me going well whilst by body was rebelling. I'm glad there wasn't an indoor checkpoint around LordsStone Cafe as I may well have bailed out I was feeling so rough. From Wainstones I felt better and by Kildale my head was back in order and I was catching up with some of the people who had overtaken me over Carlton Bank.
Seconded. I was one of the ones who ended up calling it a day at Kildale due to hypothermia (and a lack of race fitness). It was the first time that I'd ever felt fearful for my life during a race and one of the few times that I've been grateful for the pesky namby pamby kit requirements insisted upon by a race organiser.
I'm typing this with numb fingertips that still haven't recovered from the prolonged chilling they got, even with gloves on. The exposed route, low cloud, rain & wind all combined to produce the most unpleasant conditions I've ever raced in (and I speak as a finisher of the 2005 WHW race that was stopped early).
Huge respect to all those who finished yesterday and even huger respect for those who raced yesterday and *still* plan to have a go at the Hardmoors 110.
For once, it turned out that a race name wasn't mere hyperbole. It really was the HARDmoors.
Yesterday I said to myself "never ever ever again". Today I beginning to think, "It couldn't possibly be as bad next year".
I thoroughly enjoyed that.

So to summarise, agree with other posters, great job the organisers, village hall marshalls and those at remote CPAnd a nice top I can wear and feel smug for awhile
Osmoth to Kildale was damn tough. I was most fearing the climb to Urra Moor and gradually up to the very top of moors. As it turned out Carlton bank was worst bit with the wind and rain blowing up and over the edge chilling and eventually soaking me in my lightweight water-proof (lesson learned). And it climbed from a lower height and seeminglt went on forever!
Nice to get some sun at Kildale till Roseberry Topping and nightfall. 110 under consideration, would really have to up my training and start vee-rrry slow.
