What I'm not looking forward to is trying to sleep when I know that I _should_ be sleeping but the sea not letting you. Ho hum. I've been getting some inspiration from Alan Brentnall which should stand me in good stead. Something about a cork....

Thanks for the tip about Sca Fell....I've had problems finding my way off it in broad daylight in the Old Counties Tops so I've no idea how we'll manage in the dark!
I find sea sickness more prevelant on bigger boats than on a yacht or dinghy esp if it's windy as there is so much to do it takes your mind off it. Sitting around on a small ferry I get bored.

If you do get SS best to lay down and close you eyes. SS is caused by the contradictory information your brain gets from your eyes and inner ear(balance) laying down with eyes closed removes one of these senses.

Can anyone tell me what the surfaces on cycling section are like?

I'm torn between a really road bike and a chugging great hybrid tourer. Or do I need to borrow something else? I'm off for a recce soon.

    Thanks

Our attempts to do this in 1992 failed when foul weather prevented the boat getting round Land's End to the start in Barmouth.
I did do the Scottish Islands race in 1996 and we were first Service team in about 44 hours. On top of the usual 4 to 6 hour fell runs, which may or may not be in the daytime, you'll have to contend with very little sleep, sea-sickness and probably several long stretches of rowing, if the wind drops.

Are you in the hunt to win something. if so cyclo cross bike or road bike with knobbly tyres. gravel/cinder forestry typs tracks, some rocks. Mountain bikes are good but a bit heavy.

Nope, I just hate cycling and want to get it over with as quickly and as painlessly as possible. This desire is aligned with our overall goal of getting the whole event over as quickly as painlessly as possible.

Ian, you'll notice that this is at odds with my usual fell race strategy of finding the longest route and making a meal of it e.g. my Bleaklow crossing on Tanky's
