Thanks Sore legs. I didn't see that in the info booklet but it would make sense to do the checks the night before especially with 450 people this year.

I was planning on the Recce of fleet moss car park to maybe buckden pike and back. Does this sound advisable. Will probably book a day off work in the next week or so if anyone cares to join me, ..or should that be show me where to go

Ref doing recce's - I am not experienced in this event, but there are plenty of others that are - this is my first Fellsman but having read several threads on this forum and others - this does seem to be the area if that is worth a recce. If I can get off work for a day or 2 I would check that area out and make some notes.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

The bit worth recceing is definitely the Fleet Moss, Middle Tongue to Cray stretch. As for what shoes to wear, I'd say fell shoes for sure.

Recce: try and do Fleetmoss to Yarnbury (20 miles +/-) then you've covered the difficult bit and the dark bit.

Shoes: Roclite 315 perfect for me.

I'd say definately recce any of the route that there may a possibility of having to do in the dark. If this doesn't include Fleet Moss, recce that anyway.

If its at the start and you've just taken all you need on the bus then you get rejected, how would you get back to the finish to get your emergency 'if i get rejected kit'?
Or can you take more stuff to the start and leave it there if not needed?
You can send any extra stuff to the finish -there's a van laid on to do this.

Recce Fleet Moss? Surely once a year is enough!

    The horror.

    Yet another question!

Anyone know what the deal is with water? I received my handbook on Friday but, although there's an extensive menu of food and drink available at many of the checkpoints, there's no mention of water provision. Are we expected to carry our own supplies? I hope not... I drink shed-loads and don't fancy setting off with 5 litres in my pack!

Went up yesterday and wasn't too bad (although it was first time up there so nothing to compare it to).

Only saw another runner, map and compass in hand throughout the whole morning....not even any sheep up there yet!

Went from road side to Middle tongue, then Hells Gap....then back again just for the pleasure. (Average speed 3.5mph)

Quick questions......can anyone recommend a sack for this type of event?
I have bumbag, small gelert pack type thing and Karromor Hot Ice 25l rucksack. Just think I need something bigger that the gelert Pac (approx, 3 litres). I like the Karrimor, baceus it is just one single compartment,, can't be doing with fiddly pockets, tabs and zips.

plenty of drinks on route. but carry a .7 of 1lt water bottle. if you make it a wide mouth bottle it can double as a tea cup
