Thread: Salomon trail shoes..should I?

Had a pair of SX2s and used them on everything from trail, road, and steep grassy slopes, they handled everything well, and I was between 13-14 stone.

Super comfy, and I still don't understand this weight thing, but I'm used to having massive boots on all day, so the weight issue never bothers, me, can't tell whether I've got a Talon on or SX2.

Will be buying another pair of Salomon's though....they fit my feet perfect, and the lace system is the best on any shoe ever

Actually thinking about it I thought SpeedCross were also a bit sub-optimal for lots of pointy rocks such as the scafell range. Better with something with a slightly firmer sole.

You thought of the La sportiva crosslite? Great shoe, very comfy and good grip unless its really muddy. I've used these in mixed terrain runs and they've performed really well. Though when it gets to mud or the fells its got to be mudclaw 270's

    Not sure I agree.

I used them for Wasdale 2008. There is a reasonable degree of cushioning and that pays dividends in the latter part of a long rough race. I had no issues with either grip or comfort from Esk Hause until the finish.

I decided that grip didn't need to be at a premium for a Super Long, but comfort was a more important issue.

Granted, it was a nice day and if it had been pissing down my choice would likley have been different.

I think the SpeedCross is a very good winter shoe. Grips really well even on hard packed snow.

For off road running i think they have to much heel and feels unstable.

Contouring can be difficult I agree.

I don't have issues with general stability though.

I wouldn't use them on a short or medium length race here in the UK, something more aggressive would be the order of the day.

But for longer runs, particularly those in the Alps, I think they are hard to beat.
