Well, I went on the chaingang tonight... Bit ambitious, as it goes at 1st/2nd cat racepace... but as you all know, I am a glutton for punishment! And I wanted to know where I stand, coming back after my horrid illness... So I managed to hold on until the chainbridge... which is about twice as long as last year AND I was going through and off, which I didn't manage last year, just hung onto their tails...

So I should be happy, but had hoped to actually have done a bit better than that ah well, onwards and upwards... Will try and hang on a little longer each week.

Went on on my own riding hard, taking a slightly different route to take in some hills, which I tackled with a lot more ease and speed than I did last year so that was nice. A good 80 kms done, average pace about 30 km/hr, that included a 30 minute warmdown and my ride there... Chaingang went at 40 km/hr average...
Hann they will allow you to miss a few turns whilst your getting fitter. I used to do this with the Mercury lads. Just push the guy in front on his bum and he will do a bit more before the next one comes through. Dont worry about missin the odd turn.
    The chaingang will barrel round.
Be pleased with yourself at what your achieving. Some of those guys will have been born with different genes. To ride 1st Cat takes a lot of doing and for mere mortals its just not achievable.
    Well done

Not sure about that Merry, but am aiming to be a fair bit faster han last year!

Thanks guys... it is rather hard for me, as I am continuously having to compare myslef with the racing snake young lads as I am the only woman and the only vet in the ride Makes it rather hard... but they are always very encourageing...

Training with anyone faster than yourself can sometimes be demoralising, but by heck it works, stick with it Hann

You wont suddenly go that much faster Hann
Belive me years ago I really trained hard on the bike. What you will do is sustain your pace for a much longer distance.
To get to 2nd cat is very very hard.
You will start to maintain that pace after the chainbridge. But the real key to good cycling is to conserve your energy. You dont see the top lads doing unnecesary work.
Not a luxury that most of us have.

The main thing is you have recovered from that illness and are back in the groove.

I hope you had a helmet on

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Theres a well known forumite on here who sometimes rides over to the big one and back at 2nd cat pace.
A little birdie told me that.
And the birdie is a friend of MR Dolan
