Oops...I think I must have just 'boke' you...I seem to have that effect on relay partners!
Seriously though, what I'd do is get the Dr to prescribe you some 200mg Ferrous sulphate tablets. I was in exactly the same situation. I stepped up the training but I didn't increase my iron intake to match and felt really lethargic and my running suffered like yours is seeming to do.
I took iron for 2 weeks, and had blood tests before and after. The tests revealed that my Ferritin (iron) levels had increased three-fold due to the tablets. If you don't get enough iron, you won't get enough hemoglobin (needed to transport Oxygen round the body - very important for runners).
Was gonna ask if you fancied a 90 min run tomorrow, but I guess you won't after reading this!
I have started taking iron supplements.
you are a wind up.
I started taking a daily 200 mg ferrous sulphate about 6/7 years ago when I was struggling with my racing/hard training on the suggestion of a friend.
I stopped taking them 2 months ago cos I was worried about self-medicating over such a long length of time. I don't think I've suffered any drop in performance .
On reflection I may have been struggling with a virus, stress or lack of sleep.....as usual I blame all this on my kids.
I've just decided I don't trust you anymore.
