Can anyone find a better forecast, still could do with the wind dropping a bit?

Someone up there is definitely smiling down on you. The foulness will pass to the south (where it belongs) and you should get away lightly, provided the forecast doesn't all change again over the next 36 hours. All this week any forecast rain has shrunk and faded to virtually nothing, at least here in S Manchester.
I cannot run but I will be there to support and take pictures (and look on in envy). I may pop up to Yarnbury on the bike to welcome some of you home, but that depends on what the weather's doing and how nesh I'm feeling.

Re Torches. I asked the Fellsman organisers.

My question : "I've been using the online rules and believed my bright, reliable Lenser P7 Pro torch to be perfect but the book now says it will fail on lens diameter and singe LED. Which rules should I be using, online or book, and will my torch be okay. Quick reply appreciated, I may need to pop to Tesco for something else. Thanks."

Reply : "Dear Roger, Don't worry your torch will be fine. The LED torches have come on so much in the last few years. This rule is one of the rules we will be reviewing after the event in our planned 'grand rules overhall'. A trip to Tesco's is not neccessary ;o)

I might add (by me Roger), this doesn't mean your miniscule, microlight 10 lumens LED will pass. Be sensible about it and bring something that's up to the job.

A friend of mine emailed the organisers yesterday and got a similar response. So it looks like we're alright with the more powerful single LED torches. I won't need to borrow my wife's daisy cow little torch with its two LED's after all.

I think they've been a bit slow bringing their rules up to date with modern technology. They accepted my Petzl Myo XP years ago when it first came out (it's still going strong and was a massive improvement over the Tikka).

Do you think they'll let me take my E-lite instead of spare batteries for my Lenser? I've got the rechargeable version so it won't take ordinary batteries!

Well 2 torches has got to be better than one :-) I'm the same Im taking my exposure joystick which is rechargeable also and a zipka headtorch as backup.

Well that's me sorted and good to go (kit check excepting); I've updated the route on my maps, got all my kit out, packed what I 'm not wearing on the day, bought a block of marzipan as my emergency food and I've even brushed the dried mud of my fell shoes.

I've just checked my checkpoint puncher from last year and here's a few depressing facts to remember on the day/night:

At the top of the third peak, Gragareth, you will have only travelled 13.5 miles!

Dent is only a third of the way round at 20.5 miles

Once you hit the trig on Buckden Pike you will still have 15 miles to go

Even at Yarnbury when you finally get hit the tarmac, its a long long long 2 mile run in to Threshfield

My main concern still has to be answered by the Catering staff- I asked which colour of wine would be available at each food stop, as I can really only drink red with pasta , although white or a nice dry rosé will be fine with the pastry on offer. However, towards the wee hours, I was informed that only coffee was offered as the beverage? Now, who else on here likes to finish a meal with a brandy or 2? My descent from Yarnbury clearly depends on suitable "digestifs" or else the running plays havoc with the meal.
.................so my question is........ which hip flask passes kit check?
I have searched all previous forums so as not to annoy the GRUMP, but this most important quandry has yet to be answered......
