Many thanks to you both, Lurker and Fortinbras. Sounds hard. Can't wait.

    good description Fortinbras.
the terrain is quite fast going as it is mostly on grass and tracks.two big climbs to tackle i,e Moel Eilio and Cynghorion but all very runnable.navigation is quite straightforward, obvious tracks and fence lines on most of the route ,the only real route choice is the line from Cynghorion to the Maescwm path, although this depends if there is a checkpoint on Foel Gron(some runners skirt around it)

Yep - looking forward to this one again - it was my first "comeback" race after 18 years in the wilderness last year - and thoroughly enjoyed the 4 seasons in one race conditions that we had...hailstones...not kidding you...very windy! but great to be out there...the run down from Cynghorion to the path was hard going - but enjoyable...remember once on the path you still have a good treck back to the finish line...

In the past few years they've included Foel Gron. I think that's now the route for the future, because it's the course Nick Swinburn set the record on (and I think the old Croasdale? record too..).

Was going down to Cribyn but only back from the States Thursday and then off to Croatia Monday so if I can't be arsed with the travel to Cribyn I'm quite tempted to make a rare North Walean appearance...

Is there a checkpoint on the path at that grid ref? or is it just a matter of running down hill where you want and joining the path at somepoint, had a run round the other day and theres many possibilities off cynghorian and at the bottom theres a massive ditch and loads of this tussocky grass, stuff. haha, this sound about right? saul

Yeah Welsh Open, but not done/won't do enough to count , I just fancied it as it looks a classic race, and then combine it with a Black Mountains recce ahead of Septembers Brit Champs race.

But that means back Thursday, away Saturday/Sunday, away Monday > Croatia, and that's now looking a bit of a ball ache.

Saul, there's normally a small trod through the tussocks, I almost straight line it. I think the CP is normally at the same point as the Peris one, so just on the path, before the sheep folds, unavoidable really so enroute.

I ran through a few weeks ago and it was still pretty boggy through there, but we've had little rain since.
