    Is it....

    a) peer-sing
    or
    b) pee-err-sing?

It depends on how fast you are talking! We've just had a vote here and we think it is 2.

    That's brilliant!

I think the Grecian / Fresian rhyme is quite justified.

this man can run 30 odd miles
his firm physique gets my smiles
he has a diet in no way mental
which is not based on the humble lentil
we share the good things found in life
olives, large beans, dolmades with rice
our diet seems a little Grecian
even though it omits Fresian (that's pushing the rhyme I know)
with a glass of warming red
and perhaps a nibble on some bread
I find it is enough for me
    on the days not solitary
but on those days he wouldn't mind
if he was to turn up and to find
me buried in a bowl of cream
or nibbling cheese, so it would seem
a militant man my bloke is not
he just would like a better lot
for all the creatures of the lands
whose fate he feels is in our hands
Old Whippet my friend, do not fear
a latte, omelette and palak paneer
are still favourite foods for me
it just makes sense not to be
reliant on dairy when he's present
cos then we cannot share the pleasant
    food that we together make
    before the other pleasures take....

hello all finding it hard to find time at the mo to use the forum i've had a few emails about Dufton didn't quite understand what 's happening now but the quality of original poetry is amazing at the moment.

    snowstorm

we went out into the blizzard together.
Amongst a spiral arm galaxy of stars ,
my Father, Sister and I to discover how
    it feels to be cold.
these son are the skills you'll need as you get old.
How small the world seems; rushing past, compressed,
when your stood still with each speck a stream of
    endless data.

The snow bit at the cheeks
beneath the nylon fur edged, parka hood.
And stung the fingertips of gloveless hands
I hope that one day I will go out into the snow
and remember what it was like to be young.

    Re: Today's poet

I know it's not a poem, but, well, it's Friday night and.....

If you kissed the sun right out of the sky for me
If you told me all the lies I might deserve
If you lay all night in the rain for me
    I couldn't love you more
    Just couldn't love you more
    I couldn't love you more

If you loved me till my eyes can no more shine for you
If you walked beside me all the long way home
If you wasted all of your time on me
Well I couldn't love you more
    Just couldn't love you more
    I couldn't love you more

If you gave me all the things I'd never ask of you
If you showed me all the ways you have to cry
If you lay all night in the rain for me
    I couldn't love you more
    Just couldn't love you more
    Just couldn't love you more

I like this a lot Harry, anyhoo you live in a beautiful part of the world! I really enjoyed my trip to the Howgills today so much so that i have dipped into Wainwrights book about it. At the beginning of the book there is a qoute from William Blake which is apparently inscribed over a doorway at the Cross Keys Hotel!!!!! Spooooooooky!!!!.....

"Great things are done when men and mountains meet; these are not done by jostling in the street".

If that is not enoough to make you win a few races then what else will?

    Howgill lullaby

    Amidst the velveteen curtains
    Derelict farmsteads
    In domes of anti crag
    Sing their silent chimes
    of misty solitude

The hum of a distant lullaby,
    earth and desolation
    hold my traverse
    in gentle reverie
    leaving the journey
    in-COMPLETE
    and beckoning
