Aren't runners normally disqualified for not taking the correct kit?

Report up on the Eryri site.

Says the docked time was harsh, but if he didn't have the required kit then I think they had no choice. Docking times seems a good way of dealing with it. There's good prizes to be had at that race so they shouldn't encourage no/lack of kit. Don't know the details of what kit he didn't have though.

Strange this race never gets that strong a field compared to the Peris or other big mountainous longs.

Not surprising, with a net uphill of 3,500ft, many, like myself, find it harder than usual. Then, the crowds on the ascent to Snowdon were unbelievable! Nothing short of a traffic jam.

I think that Gwyn wasn't carrying any waterproofs and that's why he was docked 30 mins.

First time for me in the full distance of this race and I struggled from Ogwen onwards. Was glad just to finish in one piece in the end!

I think one of the reasons not so many enter this compared to others such as Peris might be the fact that you can't enter on the day. I'm just glad that I can now finally say that I've done it!

I did the short race, and aprt from really suffering with the heat from halfway along the Pyg track I really enoyed it. I drank 1 litre before the start, another 0.5 litre to Pen-y-Pass, another .75 lites there and found another .5 litre from a trickling stream just below the zig-zags, and in spite of that I still couldn't move my legs at any more than a medium walking pace on the last climbs... Having said that I managed the race 4 seconds inside of my target time

    Full race next year then

On the long race I drank an adequate amount of water (couple of slurps from streams incl) but the Pyg rack was a complete bitch, I never felt that I was making any headway. The crowds up and down there were unreal - worse than on a sales day in the shops!!

I am glad to see people getting out to see the wonderful countryside environment that our country has on offer, but the lack of 'mountain etiquette' was unreal, frustrating and potentially dangerous - several times I was nearly knocked off the path down a drop (only small ones 2 - 10' though) due to people barging past on their way down, nearly stuck my head into a few peoples daysacs and arses due to them suddenly stopping without stepping out the way as well !!

A good day though if a tad warm !

First time for me and had a mega day out. Never seen crowds like that on Snowdon. Guesing it was due to three peak walkers? Have to agree about lack of 'mountain etiquette'

Although I didn't participate in this race I must agree with CD re mountain etiquette. I ran snowdon last wednesday via miners track and down Llanberis Path. Going up the miners wasn't too bad and the few people that were on the path kindly let me through but on the descent, it was horrendous. No one had a care in the world, there were families galore including kids and dogs, if I had knocked someone over then it would have probably been my fault. I'm not saying that we mountain runners need preferential treatment but surely some common sense must come into it. I am dreading the Snowdon Race this year because the amount of people on the mountain seems to grow every year.

From what I've heard if you get up to the summit under an hour you'll be able to use the train track.

1000m peaks is bad, but Snowdon race is worse, because in the snowdon race you hit the crowds at pace, lets face it in the 1000m you have to try to not be over taken by them...

If you run up Snowdon, early or late is the answer.
