This has been the route for at least 5 years, now. I think it used to go via Brown Knoll, rather than dropping down to the River Sett - that was before my time, though.

You can also go to the summit of South Head if you want. That's what Lloyd did when he set the current record!

    Thanks Geoff,
Tempting though it is, I'll be giving the summit of South Head a miss.
And still won't be threatening Lloyd's record.

    Kinder Trog 2010

It's the next race in the Hayfield series this Sunday - the Kinder Trog.

All the details you need are here including a route map - not forgetting, there'll be food in the Scout Hut afterwards.

I'll be marshalling at the Chunal road crossing - hope to see plenty of you there.

    Depends on the weather.
If it is not too hot a 500ml bottle should do as there are drinks stations at the two road crossings.

Oh heck, my daughter's helping with the drinks at Chunal - she's not known for rushing things! There should be a trickle coming over the Downfall and most likely some good water where you cross the River Sett.

Mrs STL is thinking about trying this although she is a bit worried about the distance as she hasn't gone that far in a while. I will probably aim to go the Chunal crossing and take some photos, so I will probably see you there. I will have my daughter with me and she loves helping with the drink stations which could either speed things up or slow them.

Many thanks to the organisers. Mrs STL enjoyed the race and little STL enjoyed sorting out drinks at the watering holes.

I have uploaded the photos I took at the two crossings, they can be found at:

After previous problems I have gone straight to Flickr so everyone should be able to view.

Same set now also on Facebook at

First long race for me and a lesson in suffering if ever there was one! Enjoyed it though...Thanks to the organisers and the marshals.
