This is a fantastic race. Last year was a baking hot day with a strong head-wind for the first half. I really suffered towards the end with intermittent cramps for the last hour or so. Still managed to get round in about 4 1/2 hours, which I was pretty pleased with.
As Also Ran says, there is no exposure anywhere, just the short, steep, loose gully coming off Kirk Fell. Navigation shouldn't have been a problem last year in crystal clear conditions, but somehow, a group near the front of the field managed to miss Red Pike!
Marvin - might be able to organise a car share this time. I'll probably go up Saturday am & camp at Lorton on Saturday night.
Thanks for the info Geoff and Also. I'll go for it. Looking at Kenny Stuart's record for the race, it's a good bit tougher than the Three Peaks. Looking at last year's results, I would expect to finish in about 5:20.
Can't find time for a reccie, but what the hell.
A car share would be brilliant, but I think I need to get back on the Saturday evening.
