Thread: Borrowdale Fell Race

    Re: Borrowdale 2010

Hi Roy, sorry to hear about your injury - sounds nasty and I hope you recover soon. I will take my place in the queue and would be very grateful in taking you up on this if ZHR is sorted out. Below is an extract from the Borrowdale Fellrunners website. I can't find the substitution form online so i'm assuming that the way to do this is that two runners agree between them that there will be a substitution and the runner who has an entry provides the details (race no and personal info) to the other who then sprts it out on the day. Obviously the substitute pays the orighinal entry the entry fee too

Thanks Roy and good luck with your recovery. ZHR, can you let me know if you take Roy up on this or not?

    Cheers

    Borrowdale 2010 - Entries Closed
No more entries for the Borrowdale Fell Race will be accepted, the closing date for entries having been reached.
Substitutions will be permitted in certain circumstances. That is where a runner, whose entry for the Borrowdale Fell Race has been accepted, is no longer able or no longer wishes to run in the Race and the substitute runner is able to demonstrate previous experience of long, arduous fell races. If he or she has not previously completed the Borrowdale Fell Race, the substitute runner must have completed at least two different category A or B long or two different category A medium fell races (race categories as defined by the Fellrunners’ Association) since 1st January 2008. The substitute runner must complete a Substitution Form at Race Registration on 7th August.
The Race Organiser will not assist potential substitute runners to identify runners who may be available to be substituted.
Please do not contact the Race Organiser to seek a late entry. No more entries for the Race will be accepted

Swiss Toni - this could be your lucky day!

I've just got home from my recce of the route with Fellfarer and have pretty much decided not to do the race. Fellfarer did an excellent job of guiding me round but the terrain is just not something I want to encounter again. We walked a huge amount of it and I honestly can't see where I'd be able to make up any time by running. It wasn't any one part of it but between the almost sheer face rock climbing, the boulder hopping and the scree skiing off Scafell Pike I've decided I like my limbs in one piece too much to risk them again. I dropped out at Sty Head Tarn and took the walkers path back to Rosthwaite whilst Fellfarer continued on the race route. I'm sure the terrible weather didn't help but other than making the (many many) rocks slippery it was quite refreshing!

Borrowdale got the best of me so I think I'll stick to the Yorkshire fells for a while. I'll think about it overnight but I'm 99% certain that my entry will be up for grabs.

Fellfarer - many thanks for showing me round today. I'd like to say I enjoyed it but i think you know I'd be fibbing!

One of the most honest posts I've ever read!

Sleep on it, you might well change your mind. However, if you don't then drop me a pm and I'll be in touch. Thank you :-)

Sorry you didn't fall in love with the Borrowdale route. I know we only got lost once (I got lost again later) and the driving rain, gale force winds and 50m visibility didn't help. I thought you did well on the scramble round woof gill and you did manage to stop that large rock from killing me on the Scafell screes.
I hope this hasn't put you off fell running in the Lakes and I would happily show you round a more friendly route in better weather sometime.

Hello, are you a regular fell runner in the lakes then?
What was you time for the recce?
Just wondering to get ideas as my friend is doing it and he got 3 hours doing the whole route, but hoping to improve!
Wondering where everyone else is at..

First off, I'd get him to double check the route he took. Don't think it's very likely he went the right way with a sub 3-hour reccie!
