Great event, really enjoyed it. The marshals and Llanberis crowd were brilliant - so supportive.

Someone yelled "Go on, Tussock!" just as I started the descent. My eyes were firmly fixed on the ground and I managed to croak out "Cheers!" but didn't see who it was. Please make yourself known!

The Kenyan was in second place when the leaders passed me on their way down. As well as arriving in the UK at 1.00am, he'd apparently had insufficient funds for his rail ticket and had had to blag his passage on the dawn train from Euston to Chester. He was looking very bleary eyed when I saw him at 11.00, having the workings of the hydroelectric power station explained to him. Perhaps not the ideal race preparation, and I'm not surprised he struggled a bit on the descent. Plus, is it an advantage being wafer-thin in a buffeting wind? He must have been at risk of being blown over at times. The Scot had already hit the front and was storming down. The English guys were several places behind, but packing well and moving with ominous determination, with no more than a couple of yards between three of them. Did they get the team prize?

As for shoe choice: due to the rain, I went for the X-Talon 212s as well, and for once I think I got a choice right. They got me up and down in comfort* and without mishap.

*Apart from legs, arms and lungs, that is. Both calves cramped simultaneously as the tarmac road levelled out on the final run-in. What I mean is, at least my feet were fine.

Is it true that the Italian that was first to the summit went off down the wrong way towards Rhyd Ddu? That's what I heard off one of the marsalls in the Vic tonight! Crap weather compared to what we've been used to in this race in recent years. Felt a bit sorry for the Kenyan, he was in a no-win situation with this race as he had been hyped up for it and was expected to win. Also as said earlier in the thread he didn't get to Llanberis till late Friday night so probably not the best preparation! Hope he comes back next year and the weather is better! Well done to the Scottish lad who won, he was second as he passed me on the way down but was right behind the Kenyan who seemed to be struggling. Can't believe he's only 18!! What a guy! Also, glad to hear that Dylan Wales didn't break his arm on the way down but got a free ride on the train!! Diawl diog!!

I really enjoyed that, I passed a load on the way down (and took a dive just before the half way cafe). I wish I could be stronger on the ascent though! Gutted to have come in 31 seconds over the 2 hour mark.

I ran in road shoes last time but X-Talon 212 was definitely the right choice yesterday

    Results!

Bad weather must have kept the number of tourists down which must have made things a bit less congested near the top!
