    North Yorkshire Summer Series

So here we are 8 summer series races down three to go, tomorrow night the Guisborough Grunt, with a tough mid race climb up Green Hill to Highcliffe Nab.

31st August - The classic Roseberry Topping sprint, running for over 40 years, is it the gully or the tourist path

11th September - The Castleton Show Race - A fell race for road runners and a road race for fell runners:closed:

According to the results from last year, this years race will be the 65th

I went for a quick recce today; I think that I will probably use the tourist route

The record of 10min 20sec!! was set on the tourist path, but the paths were abit different then.

There are some new timber steps in the wooded section, they'll be a bit tricky if damp.

There is plenty of room either side of the new steps for easier running

Grasmere Guides completed, roll on Roseberry, the flattish approach is just abit longer.

I hope your legs are trashed as I need the points in the Club Champs

I think my legs were feeling it abit last night after all. There are still 4 races left in the club champs, plenty of time get back in the running.

The Roseberry Topping race was terrific on a warm sunny, still night. The pics are up on David Aspins site and there are some good shots of the mayhem of the ascent, plus the race that develops on the descent between the two leading contenders, Jack Willis (Aged 13! and eventual winner) and Will Horsley who was second. Really good race for the spectators.

    A classic fell race.

I was quite surprised to see Jack just in front of Will on the decent whilst I was still ascending.

It’s not the first time I have been trashed by a youngster; a 14 year old Carol Haigh stuffed me years ago when I was in my prime and before she was famous.
