    Re: The Ben Race

I've mentioned it on another post but I was staying near Arisaig recently and the return bus fare to Fort William was £5.70 - thats for a trip of about 70 miles, and with just enough time to have a reasonably steady run up the Ben before the bus back. I'm up there again later this month but there is not a late afternoon bus back on a Saturday so I'll be coming to the Glen Nevis campsite a day or so before the race. There is a train as well, I dont know the fare for that but its a bit less convenient (the bus let me off and picked me up at the Achintee road end and stops 400 yards from the campsite I was on at Arisaig).

For those that haven't seen it or want a quick reminder here's Marks (fellephants) vid from last year..... done in black and white due to the nastiness of the weather but I think it captures what it's all about, possibly more than the 'staged' bbc filming that is apparently happening this year????

Just got our Race Cards in the post this morning.
Mentions that the Grassy Bank is being taped off due to erosion and we need to reccy a new route! around this area.
That should be interesting, need to get behind a Lochaber runner at this point !!!

They've been on about that for a while, kind of inevitable, but this will add a few minutes to the times..

Yeah same here, good on the feet to have a few yards of grass, but the race route was getting quite a scar. I'd rather run the original route, but I think this is an understandable step.

Will it be a new record this year then?

You mean the bit where someone threw a boulder at me last year?!! A marshal shouted something, and I looked to the side in time to see a substantial rock shooting past me. Would have been ouch! I'm not running the Ben this year, busy elsewhere!

    Re: The Ben Race

All it says is that a "narrow strip of eroded ground" is being taped off. I guess this means only a slight change of route, and not really very significant in terms of change in distance.
