    Long Lost Pubs

Pubs are disappearing all the time but one that I remember well was the Buck and Dog, Warren St Stockport. Always a top pint of Boddies (as it was) and the last time I was there a 7 foot woman with a bald green headed dwarf who was standing on the bar!

The pub was sadly demolished to make way for an extension of the Merseyway shopping precinct - it's Barclays Bank now!

That pub must have been almost in the River Mersey; the river flows somewhere underneath Barclays.

They turned a couple of pubs in Rochdale into funeral parlours though some slightly unkind people said they were half-way there already

And those pubs that are still there but have been turned into boutique bistro thingies. Like the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton and the King's Head at Thirlspot. Both dreadfully over-priced and not surprisingly empty the last time I dropped in for a nostalgic pint.

And there was the Gale Inn in Littleborough of course - now a Chinese so the race had to move up the road to the Summitt Inn. Well done Allan G for keeping the race going!

I remember the Punch Bowl just outside Brough on the A66, looking very sorry now it is.

Remember it very well indeed - a good pint!

    Plus I went to a Wedding Bash there too....upstairs & downstairs...cracking Do:wink:...

And guess what the Lass' whose Big Day it was worked for Barclays Bank...

WH - there must be book in the making here, having just returned from Peddling the Outer Hebs & more (where community & society is still so strong), it's really very sad to see how many classic boozers going to the wall.....

...Not really a fell runner's pub, but anyone here remember the Bellu Vue opposite Bradford City's ground? I had many a good old pre-match session in there as a youngster, rolling out of there and into the ground at five minutes to kick-off!
It's a muslim community centre now, which is kind of amusing given the sort of pub it was.
