Thanks for that info. I was intending to run this tomorrow, hope the rain and wind give over by then ( esp wind). bit disappointed by the route change , how am I going to tell how much more decrepid i am getting if not by comparing decreasing race times year on year. Mind i can see maybe why, the front guys must get irritated by having to negotiate the slow ones on that slow steepbit as they fly back down. The new route looks longer ??? but avoids that nasty steep reoded descent, might be kinder on my knees then.
hope the new route is well marshalled , it looks like there is more potential for wandering than on the old route.
Hoping to be along tomorrow not sure whether running or taking photos yet? Will see how my legs feel after today's Ellesmere 10k race.
That was fun. really nice sunny but cool day after the storms of yesterday and the ground not too wet, just softened.
Prefer the new route as it gives more scope for overtaking on the downhill and its generally more varied.
loads of people at the top, on the monument and generally sat around.
After the race we sat and watched teddy bears being flung off the church tower ( you had to be there )
Good new downhill section - a bit fast!! Lovely afternoon for a run - sunny with great views!!!!
Gilbert got Neil Parry on the way down to win! Laura Bestow (West Cheshire) was first lady with a Wirral lady second.
Photographic evidence should be available in the next few days from: http://www.prdouglas.co.uk/
What a great day at Cilcain today. New route for the race was great and much faster till I went over on one ankle quite badly and then the other slightly - thought that was the race over but thankfully after about a minute or so stopped. I slowly started moving till the pain eased allowing me to carry on and pick up my pace again. I think I managed to catch a few people up who passed me but should have been about 11-14 places higher up the results I think? Pleased considering my second race in two days.
Should have some photos available soon that Tracey took.
I'm relatively new to fell running (I go out quite a bit but don't get the chance to do many races), but did the Cilcain Mountain Race this year and last year. Thought the course was a vast improvement with some great single-track downhill sections - much better than having to dive out of the way of the leaders like the year before!
Great crowds as usual, but it was a bit warm for my liking, and got plagued by flies on the way up...
