Ah well, had a good kip and need to get out for some training. I've decided it's all a big leg pull and I fell for it.
Nice one, jtB.
Rooney? The papers should hang him out to dry.
The moment he starts taking his pay cheque & sponsorship millions - albeit some of it indirectly - from the public, he becomes public property & will be treated by the media as such. How can I explain to my eight year old son that it's acceptable for him to shag a prossie because he's under pressure? If he can't take the pressure, don't take the money. Simple.
Hague? He's an elected Member of Parliament, who got there because people believed they could trust him. However in this case the media are reporting on the smoke without finding the fire & that is wrong. I couldn't care less if he's gay, but if he's found to be lying about this......

spot on. i understand many peoples PoV on here when stating that whats private should stay private but feel they have missed the key point that he is a public figure who willingly takes the millions. aside from that he is a role model to thousands of 8-28 year olds and should be aware of how his actions will always be under scrutiny.
as usual with these highly paid sport 'stars' all wil be forgiven and forgotten in a few weeks providing they perform in their chosen sport.
a sad indictment of modern society
Anyone stupid enough to use Wayne Rooney as a role model deserves all they get. He's not a bad bloke, but he's just an average lad who's been given millions of pounds. Of course he's going to do stupid things.
I'm not even convinced by the whole role model argument. I don't think prostitutes are going to notice an increase in business because people think "If Wayne Rooney does it, it must be OK". Maybe we should be crediting people with more intelligence.
Very good point.
I can see what Daz is saying, that who cares what he gets up to, but when he's in the lime-light - whether he likes it or not - people are going to find out everything he's done, and your 8 year old is a prime example.
The county is messed up enough as it is, we dont need the next generation growing up wanting to be a footballer who gets to sleep with women for money every once in a while.
I feel more sorry for his wife than anything. But I suppose thats the same for every case of cheating-on their partner, but when its the only thing the media care about at that moment in time it's unthinkable how terrible you must feel.
I still think footballers are seriously-over rated.
AL I have to disagree, read Noels post.
Wayne Rooney has a contract with Man Utd. He plays football and takes his money, END OF. His contract with his sponsors are the same, He puts his name to some boots and he takes his money.
IF in his contracts he had a clause saying OH Wayne you have to not be a lad, shag about, get drunk etc etc etc, he wouldnt do it. There isnt a contract in the world that says that. Therefore its you and Joe Bloggs that think he is a role model to 8 yr olds. Thats not Wayne Rooneys problem. Its the people that believe it.
He is a paid employee of Man Utd , thats it. Dont think hes any other.
Why is the country messed up ? , because Rooney has shagged about ?
Royalty was doing it 300 years ago.
Lets get realistic here and understand that Wayne Rooney is not a role model. The media have put him in that position. He himself has not. He is a class footballer, If Man Utd want to give him millions and the press want to make him some kind of man that u want an 8 yr old daughter to look up to then thats the press, Man utd and parents. When he makes a mistake dont expect to turn rank and slate him.
AL Im surprised you say the UK is messed up , WHY
I'm with Daz on this. In many respect its the News of the World that has the morals of the gutter, hacking into people's private mobile conversations for instance and generally bottom feeding, scouring here there and everywhere for dirt to dish. Wayne Rooney is a superb footballer but like Noel said he's been handed a load of money and has an extremely public profile - like most lads of his age, he's inclined to learn not to do stupid things by doing them first and finding out what a stupid thing it was to do after. That could be the epitaph on quite a few peoples tomb stones including mine.... although I hasten to add spending £1200 a night on a prostitute has never been a mistake that I've ever been able to make![]()
