I made a right cock up of saturday coming in 29 mins late with 190 point penalty leaving me with 5 points and a huge blister, had a cold nights sleep then hobbled back to the finish in a straight line picking up 1 control feeling very foolish, last year I was 15th in solo vet this year I wouldn't be surprised if I were last.

Me and Stef were a little over ambitious on day 1 and once we realised we'd lost all our points we saunted back nice and steady and just enjoyed the fells, we thought there was no point rushing back only to sit in the cold tent all night, might as well be playing out. We redeemed ourselves on day 2 by being very careful and came in 20 minutes ahead of time with 85 points, so all was not lost. We had a fabulous time in the hills and the weather and views made it even better. It was very chilly through the night but we did manage to get some sleep.

well i am impressed by the number of points some of you collected. Even more by how many some of you lost  it makes my meagre total seem reasonable ( 140 on day one and 105 day 2 ). i always have problems deciding on a route at these events. it took me 20 min at the start day 1 and then i changed my mind about going e of haweswater so missed the easy 10 I had decided to collect on the way back..... That descent into hayeswater was a right knee cracker and no mistake...
A friend did a similar ( ok identical route to below angle tarn but then spotted the 50 pointer nw and went for it I didn't see it or probably would have thought it too far, he got it and another to collect 200 pts but as he said the longect run in in history 70 min from the last checkpoint.
It was a funny event as you had to make your choices early as there was little close to the camp site to pick up if you wre early, that accounted for a lot of no pointer I think people trying to pick up points far of and leaving little time to get back.

So you were the antisocial b's in the far corner of the field you were so far of you could have had an extra control. Long walk to the loo though

    two good days out though.

I agree the (good) planning made it hard to put a route put together. I never felt totally happy with my choices and spent a lot of time wondering whether I'd have been better off elsewhere. It's amazing how you see some options in hindsight that you didn't spot at the weekend... or at least look back and think why did I choose that!?

You must've just pipped me on time as I'm 23rd with the same points.
