A bit of discussion via club email today about routes choices. Has there been any limitations in route options at Crowden, will both the Wildboar Clough and Torside Clough choices be viable?

Yes you can take wild boar but Rollick stones is Out of Bounds so you have to go all the way past the shooting area to the access point which i think is approx around SK 071 985 or Climb Lawrence edge. The standard route via Torside/hernstones/ shelf moor remains unchanged

Just a foot note, I was in contact with Clair today. Entries stand at 180 but she has some to add to that.

Is Fair Vage Clough part of the out of bounds?

The bottom part yes that would be out of bounds. It wouldn't be worth trying as you would get your arse shot off!! They were shooting last year and infact there were reports of shot landing close by out of the area. However as long as you go round the fence you could access the upper part.

    Thanks for that Ian
    On another topic,
With the the road being put out of bounds I had a look at Google Earth. I see there is, what appears to be a forestery track, going down through the woods in the new section. Is getting onto and off of this track an option people are considering or is it a case of following the stream. I have not been over there yet so I do know know what to expect.

    Hi Pat

I'm not 100% sure where you mean but if it isn't on the road you can use it. If it the track is on the west bank(called the blue route I think) The bridge over to it has been closed due to a land slip(again i think). However I'm sure you could get over but this would miss the Cp point on the eastern bank just North off Birchen Clough access point. After this point though you can go where you like(not the road though). There is a bridge across LC below Birchin clough layby that take you up to the track. I'll try and post a map of this section later.

The closed bridge would offer no advantage route wise, it is steep, very overgrown and leads to river crossing and steep climb through heather to path to then track to point where you'd pick the river crossing up from blue route pathway - if that makes sense.....
