For those who like a good singer/songwriter, give Sam Baker a go, esp his debut album Mercy. Bob Harris played a track (Iron) the other week and it caught my ear so i chanced it and bought the album and it is just fantastic, a real find. His songwriting his just wonderful and I defy you not to get a lump in your throat listening to Waves, the first track. Oh to be able to write like that...

Sam was severely injured when a bomb blew up a train he was on going to Machu Picchu and he had to relearn the guitar left handed. He suffered mild brain damage resulting in difficulty in remembering words, has constant tinitus and has hands were mangled. He says it takes him ages to write because he has to "go find" the words he needs, but when he finds them, they're gold.

It's quite country-esque, which is not my bag at all, but brilliant songs shine through all that and this really is brilliant stuff. Iron, Waves, Truale and Thursday and all top drawer but there is no bad track on it. Better than Dylan in my opinion, certainly more moving and more crafted.
