No he wasn't a bad runner at all, not top class, but a very good club standard athlete. I often wonder how 'qualified' some folk are to be pontificating on here, in the sense of what they've actually achieved themselves. Me included? Lol.

Not that I agree with everything CL says (!) or that you can't have a valid opinion without being a good runner yourself, but I've always been of the belief that we should listen more to champion athletes of the past more than those who've never been there but think they know it all because they have a coaching badge. Being in both categories is even better of course.

Agree with this. Very few of the best coaches were the best athletes. Look to football - Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger: none were top footballers (Ferguson being the best) but all 3 are excellent coaches.

Freddie Roach & Enzo Calzaghe in boxing

    Peter Coe in athletics

[QUOTE=christopher leigh;369547]Talking of Arrivederci. One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite singers.

    An epitomic response!

And when you mature you might try Gigli, Martinelli, Tagliavani, Corelli, Del Monaco, Gedda, Bergonzi, Pertile, Volpi, Di Stefano or, of course, Caruso.

Alas Tiny Tim (Herbert Khaury) was not Italian but American of Lebanese and Jewish parentage.

Oh! And he could not sing.
