I use www.streetmap.co.uk to produce my own maps. They have the 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 OS maps, and using a bit of computer skill you can cut and paste the bits you need on a sheet of A4.

I am still trying to work out the route however...
Looking at the .pdf I downloaded from a link on this forum, the route to CP 1 is west out of Barley alongside the reservoirs (the same route as the return from CP 11).
Having looked at the map however for a recce a few weeks ago I followed the Pendle way NW out of Barley then up the steep east face of the hill.
    Which is the usual route?
Are both legitimate options? Does everyone go the same way (and which one)? or do some folk choose different routes?

    Thanks

Well I've been up there a few times recently and I did the HT and the Barley fell this year and I can't say I've any confidence. Was the steep east face made up of stone steps? The Pendle Way seems to lead to that. That's the way I went up today and I know that's wrong.

From the Harvey map you can see that the start of the Full and the HT take a slightly different route, but this is well before CP1 so maybe it doesn't matter, except that there might be access issues.

Maybe not a good idea. My beer intake has got out of kilter with my training mileage.

It's my first attempt at this one. I use streetmap too to build my own maps, the 25000 coverage prints off at the right scale if it's reduced to 38%. An old mucker gave me his race notes but I see CP1 has moved in recent years (erosion issues, I imagine). So I'm just plotting the CPs and will check at registration on the first leg to CP1, there'll be plenty of people to follow at that stage anyway.

Sounds like a pretty tricky route to follow then ? I shall have a look round the thriving metropolis of Stockport town centre later for an OS map.

Bit of a concern this route as I was planning on winning the race comfortably, perhaps by half an hour or so. I can now blame lack of route knowledge for my 174th place finish.

If you look on the link below, you can see where "most" of the route goes. We had a trot round on Saturday, strangely it was quite damp under foot in many places, who'd of thought it eh? :-)

If you click on the satellite tab there should be nearly enough info to put on a map. Bear in mind we cut down the slabs from the trig after the first climb, and cut off through the woods to Spence rather than going via the nick. Geronimo was missed out too, we just cut back across to Pendleton so ignore that bit, the climbs are all there though!

Been up this morning Monday 8th bit of snow and and ice on the big end and last climb, high winds and a bit of clag on top, and gales forcast for friday.
Looking at previous posts sounds like some may be struggling.
    Bring it on.

Re: Full Tour of Pendle 2010

I'm considering whether or not to take the early start option on the FTOP this year. Although not an absolute back marker - there were finishers 1hr to 1.5 hrs behind me last year - I could comfortably set off half an hour ahead of most of the rest of the field and still be well down the order by the end. I'm mindful of the poor old marshals, and packing the finishers better seems like a good idea. On the other hand, I don't fancy setting off alone at 10.00. It wouldn't feel like I was in an event at all.
Is anyone else definitely starting at 10.00, or thinking about it?
