Thread: Full Tour of Pendle

    Re: Full Tour of Pendle 2010

    So this is my best approximation of the route on Map My Run...

    http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-k...28952186873414

    I still wonder why it wouldn't be quicker to run this way to CP 1...

    http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/gb/bar...28925411691131

    It seems to be about a mile shorter!! Am I missing something?

    {edit: upon checking with some club mates, apparently the route out via the road is "flagged" and therefore compulsary}

I'm mindful of the poor old marshals, and packing the finishers better seems like a good idea. On the other hand, I don't fancy setting off alone at 10.00. It wouldn't feel like I was in an event at all.
    Is anyone else definitely starting at 10.00, or thinking about it?
    Hi TF, Your not the only one considering the early start. I recall that you and I finished the Hebden close together at the start of the year. So would be more than happy to start at 10 with you.........well that's two of us anyway! See you on Saturday.

    Thanks for all the advice. alfa and serigala I've had a good look at your maps - easier to follow than the Harvey version. I agree I don't understand why the first part isn't on the Pendle Way- much more direct and less chance of going wrong.

    I've put myself down for the 10 am start. I will be well at the back, finishing in 4 hours-ish, so it seemed sensible, especially from a marshalling point of view. When I registered, about 3 weeks ago, the 10 'o' clockers were to be me and one other.

    As per a question few posts back, the Harvey map seems to suggest that the route to Control 1 is the long way round the path via the trig point at Control 10. Is it not allowed to go straight, or too boggy or what?

    Anyone know if the early start option is open to entries on the day or only pre-entries?

    Haven't been up there, but, apart from losing height, the satellite picture of that patch looks like the dark side of the moon. I imagine the last runner who cut across is still out there somewhere.

    [QUOTE=AndyA;370526]

    There is a spring on the ascent from CP9, complete with metal lid and pewter mug (no, seriously!) but you have to know where it is!!

    George Fox allegedly drank from this on his journey and also had the inspiration to found the Quaker movement while on Pendle.

    1652.

    'As we traveled we came near a very great hill, called Pendle
    Hill, and I was moved of the Lord to go up to the top of it; which I did with difficulty, it was so very steep and high. When I was come to the top, I saw the sea bordering upon Lancashire. From the top of this hill the Lord let me see in what places he had a great people to be gathered. As I went down, I found a spring of water in the side of the hill, with which I refreshed myself, having eaten or drunk but little for several days before'.

    Not to mention the hanging of the ten Pendle witches in 1612.
