I know where that spring is ~ it's also called Robin Hoods Well.

Forget that. I have just seen the entry form and there are no boxes to tick there for an early start.

if you are worried about the route, make friends on the first climb with a similarly paced chap (preferably with a beard - good sign of an experienced fellrunner) in a pale blue top (rossendale) or white with an orange stripe (clayton) they will have done it hundreds of times.

And I hope someone points out to me robin hood's well and the site of any witchcraft - I'm really into my historical anecdotes on long fell races! I find they keep me going!
