Leave as little impact...cairns...eroded trods...I doubt anyone deliberately droppped any litter.

I think we have to accept route alterations to allow recovery will now happen more and more, well done to the RO for doing that yesterday. Not sure what they can do about the geronimo descent, a classic route but not sure whether they should shift to another section of bank or just keep it there so at least the damage is concentrated in one spot, maybe the local conservation body/wildife trust/NT can advise.. Some erosion on a route is inevitable...afterall as the saying goes: take only photos..leave only footprints...
Hi IanR Not condoning this practice but at least the wet toilet roll will desolve eventually unless it was Izal(showing my age now) but the gel packs wont and really look a mess along with the little bits that people bite of the top.
A lot of the erosion on the tour route is from people recceing the route and training on it before hand, the geronimo descent is quit bad and is used in the half tour as well, Last year I think the half tour organisers flagged it off to the right hand side nearer the wall, a route I use and is actually quicker especially in wet conditions. Another answer would be to reverse the route every few years. I think the first climb from Buttocks to the top of the Cart track is a cause for concern as that is used in the Tour, Half Tour, and Pendle Fell Races. But is erosion as big a problem as people make out, as you get regular natural scars especially on Pendle called brasts caused by water pressure build up in the Limestone core and becoming to strong for the sedimental grit and shale layers to contain it causing water to burst out carrying everything in its way these also look a mess one near Foxes well a few years ago but which as nearly grown over, and one in the last week under the cart track. But they do soon heal if left.

Steampig, I recall the grunting, but on the last ascent it was more in the nature of medical emergency than an active attempt at communication. I think we exchanged glances of mutual sympathy and one or two words at the end.

I spent more time talking on that final climb than in the whole of the race before it. It felt like I had nothing better to do.

I spent quite a lot of time daydreaming about dropping out of the race, putting a nice warm coat on and jogging round the rest of the course just picking up the litter and laying it all out it on one of the tables in the hall like a display. But around check point 6 I realised I'd dropped my hoop of bread tags, I felt dreadful - I really hope someone picked them up - (no279?) or am I going to be spending every weekend from now on, retracing the full tour of pendle till I find them?

Know the feeling, Daleside. I was sorely tempted by the vacuum flasks some of the marshalls had tucked away. And the trail of abandoned jelly babies dropped in the latter half. Almost snaffled a few of those, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to get upright again.
Sorry, didn't see your tags, but I did pop into the Daleside Brewery a while back to see if I could buy a sack of malt.

Sorry, but I don't but the "cold hands" excuse for leaving your litter behind. So every time you drop some litter in winter it's OK to leave it as you've got cold hands ? Poppycock ! It's a friendly fell race, not the olympics. Pick your godamn litter up.

I sometimes doubt some of you have been in the fells. I dropped a power bar wrapper in the 2008 Peris. Going up Garn it blew away and down into Cwm Idwal.....what was I to do? Search in vain for the wrapper?Descend 2000ft searching for that one wrapper?

I also didn't say it was acceptable. But an accidental dropping of a wrapper is hardly a shooting offence. And it wasn't me - I ate one fudge bar and one gel and can post you both wrappers if you want proof..

I run 2500 miles a year, mostly in the fells, I've dropped one wrapper, yet I've carried off a lot if litter, especially off Snowdon...

I find it brilliant that you are all so horrified about 1 wrapper, yet drive 500 mile round trips, pumping Co2 into the air for a friendly fell race...I just acknowledge there are consequences for partaking in the sport I do. The way you lot preach on its like you think you have 0 enviormental impact. Of course you do, far more than just a dropped wrapper.

    Have some perspective...

Honestly a great race, great event and some of you would rather harp on about 6 dropped wrappers...
