    [QUOTE=superflyguy;376145]i am a little disillusioned about this race now.QUOTE]

    I got that sense a fair few pages back which is why after filling out the form I opted not to post it off. Maybe next year. This year, Gravy Pud for me. I've got house guests that weekend coming over from Gambia, should be an interesting morning out for them...:w00t:

    I have absolutely no idea what Claire has / has not done this year but can I categorically clear up the point about permissions from the last 2 years. Many telephone convesations and several emails between Natural England, United Utlilities , Peak Park wardens and me with maps with potential route choices marked on resulted in permissions being granted for the route over Black Hill taking us down to Crowden Little Brook / Sliddens and the options opened on Bleaklow were accepted as spreading any potential impact. The comment from Natural England "In previous years there has been plenty of heavily degraded peatland and the effect of groups of runners on this was minimal, with the expensive restoration underway some locations might show wear and tear ahead of full recovery and I want to avoid this." which is why we slightly modified the route to avoid some newly seeded areas. Good luck with the race this year, 1st time in 20 years I will not be racing but will be on Black Hill as a team member.

    It is sad that the elements of choice have gone. It sort of makes all those recces a bit redundant. However I will still be giving it a portly trott. Anyone got space for the journey back to Marsden?

    ALL
    I HAVE TRIED TO NOT READ THE DISCUSSIONS ON HERE AND GET INTO THE BUN FIGHT; THE OPTION HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO CONTACT ME VIA EMAIL OR PHONE.
    I admit to being a novice at this and have openly admitted to not knowing the area or understanding the route and have openly asked for information. In the end, the extensive knowledge from 'the man himself' has been lost to age and I am merely trying to keep the race to a family run event. It is a very steep learning curve for me and I greatly appreciate constructive comments, advice and feedback. Firstly this site is NOT an official site for Tanky's so any comments please send to me directly at [email protected].
    Ok...to the point.
    I have had the following emails and these are direct quotes!!!

    'We wouldn’t be able to issue a permit for an unmarked route over Black Hill and Bleaklow due the fragile nature of the recently restored peat and large number of participants in the race. We would however be happy for the race to follow the new Pennine Way from Black Hill to Crowden, cross over Torside dam and then follow the Pennine Way up to Bleaklow head.'

    Since this email I have agree with United Utilites that the route can cross the old Peninne way across West End Moss. I'm not getting into the details of past permissions on here but needless to say if we are to do the race then this is the agreement; if you deviate then you could put the whole future of the race at jeopardy. I have agreed with United Utilities that for next year I will have a face to face discussion with them and Natural England regarding the route and the preservation of the area to try to come up with a solution for future years but due to my novice status for this year this is the only agreement we have.

    With regards to Wildboar again see the quote below;

    'the only point of concern on the route (and has been for a long time) is please advise the runners to avoid skew bridge and the wildboar shoot as this land is excluded from CRoW and therefore not open access to the public.

    In the past you have asked the runners to cross at Torside dam and go up the Pennine Way – this has worked for everyone.'

    I hope that this answers all the queries regarding the area and the route at this area!!

    Please....if there are any queries or critiscms please contact me directly. I can only learn from feedback. I know that things haven't been to plan this year but I have found it very difficult with full time job and 2 young children. Like I say, it will be different next year; I plan to have website solely for the race and to have online applications (my postie doesn't like me!!!) and online payments.

    Bear with me....it is a non profit race; all proceeds go to charity; I have taken holiday days to do this!! I am doing it in my fathers name to keep the legend of tanky going!!!
