If I hold the brake lever and move the little lever, the indexing still works but of course, you can't do that as you are riding! The cable is running free so it seems like something is snagging within the handlebar unit. Any clues please?

First question would be how long have you had them

3 year warranty on dura ace
    2 year on ultegra.

Q - Presume it needs to be a replacement flat bladed spoke and a 'normal' round spoke would not do ...or is that just for aesthetics?
Q - Presume the spoke would not need to be Shminao specific?

Trawling web yesterday indicated that it would not be that easy to purchase. Will give Ribble a call to see if they have a few to buy.
You don't say what wheel the shimano one is. Repairs to wheels can be difficult to do on your own. Replacing the spoke is the actual easy bit. Truing the wheel is not. You can end up having a nightmare.
Mercian do mine and it's one reason I have campag or mavic wheels. Both made at the same factory as are fulcrum.
They have a wheel builder and machine to true them on. That's even before you have the correct tools.
I had a spoke tightened a month ago on my cosmic car bones and that was £14 and I know them well at that.

Je James may have some shimano spokes but you need to check to see if your wheel needs truing. If a spoke has gone normally the wheel will go instantly out of true.

One thing is sure , it won't be cheap

Cheers for that Daz. It's a RS30. I wasn't planning on doing the repairs myself, but both places said they'd have to order the spoke and then would happily repair, including truing. I'll probably give JE James and odre what I need from there.

    Padded shorts
    Winter running tights
    Winter Bib tights
    Cold gear base layer
    2 Helly's
    Montane jacket
    Hiking socks knee length
    Double skinned beanie
