There is a checkpoint on top but the cut-off is timed at Mam-Nick. First year I did this the summit marshal said "you'll not make to the road in time" but I did, just.

There is indeed a checkpoint at the top of Mam Tor, with the cut off point (and liquid) just beyond on the roadside at Mam Nick. No skirting to the right possible therefore.

Cheers guys - replies and info much appreciated! Will just have to bring some more jellybabies...took me well over the cut-off time today - but as per Ian's comments, let's hope that's down to checking the map and too much booze during Xmas.
Will drop a post in the recce section to see if anyone fancies a run around the second part this weekend/ monday.

Theres a couple of dark peak things going on over the weekend and on Monday so no joy from us. In the race you'll not be navigating at this point just follow the crowd to Hope. They'll drag you along easily.

You out Willy for Moz's run

Reccied part 2 on Monday in the snow and mist. Was really worried about coming off Rushup Edge and up to Brown Knoll, but this was fine (even in the clag), but had some difficulty in locating Grindslow Knoll and am not sure I took the right route off Ringing Roger down to the zig zags - whereabouts is the checkpoint on top? - I came straight down a rather snowy and icy path down the "face" - I noticed there were better paths both just before and just after ringing roger itself, so depending on where the CP is will affect which route I take off.
Going to have to go and give it another recce- didn't even try and find the "short-cut" from Noe Stool to Crowden Tower - was just too misty and the snow was pretty deep in the gullies. At least on the path, I could see where people had trod afore me.

I would assume that I'm comfortably going to make the cut-off on the day, but the 2nd part took me about 3hours on Monday (including up from Edale to Mam Tor though), due to conditions underfoot, the mist, stopping to check the map and any number times I had to stop to direct walkers in the correct direction!
You will automatically run faster on race day, so don't panic too much!

I recce'd the first part in the clag on Wednesday. Got a bit cocky trying to find some quick lines and ended up on the Northern edge of kinder - needless to say I won't be trying that line again - but that's what recceing's for!
From CP4 (hope road) up to Lose Hill does everyone go up the road then hit the paths? or do some get on the left hand paths straight away? I checked out the latter and it's quick running with a better spread of climb, but a fair few gates and stiles.
pos. up for a recce of pt.2. over the weekend, but I'll post in recce for that/see how the hangover goes!

Sounds, Fozzy, as if you took the correct line off RR - it's pretty grim going to begin with.

Everyone piles down the road to Townhead at 165846, ba-ba. The stiles and gates route is a much more pleasant way up on a training run, but evidently not as quick.

Provided my left big toenail survives to Sunday, you should see me on Moz's run, Ian. If not, definitely in the Nags Head afterwards ...

every one takes the road and track as GF says but interestingly about 30% of the teams in the HPM follow the other route which is basically the Skyline in reverse.

Hill or Pub I'll see you there GF

Anyone got a direct link to the race route? - that via the Dark Peak site won't work for me.
