    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Another 60 miles today, very quick as the roads were dry for the first time in ages as well as the wind being not to bad.
The climb up to drum hill had me sweating mind on the return journey.
Saw one roadie with shorts on, nuts.

The prodigy album lifted the pace for me coming back and it actually felt quite warm for the first time in bloody ages. Climbing def much much easier now I'm down to 62 kilos. If I can get down to under 60 kilos I may just try a race or two.

Oh and can anyone recommend a shop that sells size 26 jeans.

Yup, happy new year to Dazzler, all the forum bikies and non-biking forumites. Good stuff daz, puts my 36 miles with assorted hills into perspective, but just building back into it. More to come over the NY hols I hope, weather looks ok for a few miles.

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

After doing 70 mins on the rollers yesterday and a 12 mile run I thought I needed a ride.
70 miles exactly at 18.4 mph. Soooo cold today I was struggling to grip the bars coming back down the a6.
The wolf came to visit me at 60 miles but i held on to the finish.

Typing this as I'm waiting for the immersion to kick in. My son and his mates have had a shower a piece. Why do they always do that when I come back from a long ride.
No way I could of held that pace for 100 miles, not today anyway. Let's hope warmer weather returns pretty soon.

    Fine effort Daz.

I set out with a couple of full bidons anticipating a few hours on the bike this morning. 15 miles in the cable to my rear derailleur snapped.

Ironic really after you were replacing your cables the other day.

Made for an interesting cycle home.

Just made my packed lunch for work tomorrow  .

I think it must be the cold weather Ian. The 'cable' in my calf appears to have snapped 2 miles into my 10 miler today...

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Bad luck dom, hope it's not to bad mate.

And also bad luck to you fellrunner. Hopefully that's you bad luck mechanical for the year.
They normally go either at the rear mech or at the ergo lever. If it snapped elsewhere you certainly have had bad luck.

I change my rear mech cable twice a year. Simply because I ride in a hilly area, lots of changes.
Do you leave your bike in the 39 ring when not in use. An old trick to take the tension out of the cable. Prob doesn't matter nowadays with modern cables but it's a trick I was taught when I was young and I suppose it's just stuck.

Oh a tip when your fitting your new cable. Set it up, adjust your indexing, then two rides after hold the rear mech then pull the cable half way down the down tube an inch or so and this will seat the cable, or take out the stretch. Re set the indexing and you should never have any skipping gear problems after.
    Good luck mate
