How depressed will I get in the next few days/weeks/months???????
Answers on a postcard with healing vibes attached, please!
    Chugger,

I feel for you (see my PF message)

I suppose injuries are as much of the 'running lifestyle' as training, racing etc. it's just how you look at them.

Try and make a positive out of a negative. What will you be able to do now that you can't run for a few weeks? - Chill out?, time with the wife/kids/girlfriend/boyfriend? Cycling? Swimming?

You'll be back sooner than you know it!

Take advantage of the break and come back stronger and hungrier than before.

    Good luck.

    MH

    Todays Injuries

Took a tumble coming off Harter Fell today - smacked my thigh into a rock.
Felt like a dead-leg for next few miles, running uphill possible, downhill reduced to a hobble. Sat typing this with left leg looking swollen from hip to below knee - should I be concerned or is it just case of bruised muscle?

Never had injury like this one, guessing someone else must have and can hopefully put my mind at rest!

    Many thanks.

MANY, MANY thanks for your words of advice M.H.
It's good to get a bit of a voice from beyond my woe!
Have been for a swim this mornin' and am now (supposedly) doing my assignment (started this post grad. course last Sept....glad that it's raining as it makes me feel better about sitting on my arse indoors).
Will I be well enough to manage a walk later....stay tuned excitement fans!?

As for the swollen leg, Huwski......ICE.
You could also try the cold bath strategy and some GENTLE quad contractions to stimulate the circulation.
Do keep us informed. Any bruising/discolouration??
The thigh is a very vascular bit (muscle tissue++) and running with some bleeding there can be problematic.

Thanks Chugger, Will try ice, ibuprofen tablets and gel. Re: Discoloration - red patch size of my hand, half way down thigh, inside edge. Swelling now extends from top of thigh to below knee, looks like my Granny's water retention! Running with bleeding ran 10 miles after fall.

I'll give it 24 hrs then start bricking it.....

Not sure re anti inflammatories in the early stages (BUT AM NOT A PHARMACIST!!!!!)
From my understanding, they are pretty good for pain relief when you have swelling, but may not be the best thing re:tissue healing.
Ice is your best researched thing re: inflammation.
Hav you tried the cold bath treatment?
I have to say that I find this painful but effective.
TIPS: get in when the cold water is VERY shallow and fill whilst you sit there.
Wear a hat and have a brew whilst you sit there.
    Aim for about 10 mins.
Keep your toes out if you can (they take ages to thaw).
Listen to soemthing good on the radio to help pass the time.
    GOOD LUCK.

Twisted ankle from Old County Tops still playing up. Desperate to get out on the hills again...but had to hobble down off Cadair Idris on Saturday at an embarrassingly slow rate

    Bloody calf

No not you Calf, but my left one which tightened up just before the end of the Austwick Amble on Monday, and after short runs on both Wednesday and Thursday flared up again -experience tells me its a (hopefully minor) tear but it means resting up til at least the middle of next week, if not longer and then a few short flatter runs initially.
