I'm going to recce the Wasdale race route on Monday
any bits to which I should be paying particular attention?
also, if anybody wants to join up that would be fine, but I will be going very "steadily"

Coming off Seatallen going over to Scoat Fell and around Scoat Fell to windy gap and coming off Scarfell going over to Lingmell(this is easy but in race when your shot its easy to miss and a killer if you do !) the rest is easy.
JohnR - I've already changed my day off work from Friday to Monday, and had to move something around to Tuesday, so it's going to have to be Monday sorry - shame, as we could've car-shared as well...

The bit between Seatallan and Scoat Fell does indeed look "interesting"
I've been looking at what to do coming off Scafell Pike - is the idea to:
take the main walkers' path down past Hollow Stones/Brown Tongue, and then after crossing the gill reascend to the last CP?
or:
traverse/descend across the top of the gill, to get on the nose higher up?
or something else?

hey Daz, if I'd seen your post earlier I'd have tried to get Monday off, but won't be able to now.
So - the final descent - come off the Pike via the main tourist path until just after it turns sharp left down to Brown Tongue (~210 077), n then head across the top of the gill below the wall n you should pick up a contouring/slightly descending trod the meets with the main path down the nose, then charge hell for leather down the nose to the checkpoint! Great fun...
Have fun between Seatallan n Scoat too - its really good in thick mist!
This years race was a tad clagy ! I just went up to wall and over Scoat and dropped into windy gap to play it safe(a few did this from prints up there).Quite a few missed Seatallen CP and could hear voices far to low when we was climbing up towards Scoat.
The Lingmell Path is a real blast ! Watch that wall (last check point) I took a more diagnal line across from the main path jumped the gill and got the path a bit lower down its all good running straight to the cake tent :thumbup:

never done any of the route up to Scoat Fell before, so some nice surprises
the view from the descent off Whin Rigg was worth the day out on its own
idyllic spot at Lund Bridge, giant snowdrops in the woods
the only bit I wasn't over-impressed with was the latter part of the ascent of Seatallan, which seemed to go on forever and must be a candidate for hill with the most false summits :sneaky:
Pots of Ashness was fine, with an obvious trod a lot of the way, but can imagine probs in poor vis
I'd never done the path round the back of Kirk Fell before either - that was a bit scruffy, not very runnable
after dropping off Gable to Styhead, decided I was going to be pushed for daylight, so just went up the corridor route to Lingmell col, so that I could at least do the nose descent, which was stunning running into the sunset with the lake ahead and the sea in the distance...
Yeah its a nice descent next to Greathall gill, apparantley Joss's favourite view of the lake aswel. Agree with the track round Kirk, although I did it when there was hard snow on the ground. Always a nice view out to see, apart from Sellafield but creates jobs for west cumbria. Worth recce'ing a few times, was told you can miss a lot of the rock out most of the way!
