Re clamping, my role was to direct people away from the school playing area we normally use because it is being resurfaced. The caretaker of the school was anxious i did not tell people not to go to the Changegate cp in favour of the other cp's because if the owner found out he was worried the owner would link it with the school and go to the press. Owner is front page of our local paper this week claiming how shop keepers in Haworth are driving customers away rather than him and his practices and is extremely self publicizing - reveling in his notoriety.

Several people asked about car parks by the school rather than the further Sun st and i told them clearly about Changegate and its risks though i think some people went there anyway.

There was a press story of a couple of week ago of a mother whose baby was distressed as it needed feeding so she pulled in the car park intending to pay but fed the baby first. They clamped whilst she was breast feeding sat inside the car.

Its a shame that this will have spoiled at least one persons memory of what was a great day.

"one lasses face lit up like a christmas tree and she just banged it back, others just sipped frugally and a lot stood there staring at the bottle trying to talk themselves into it. "

It hit the spot and was just the boost i needed-kept running in the hope that the next checkpoint had some more-a real "whisky chaser"! As said before many thanks to all the marshalls.

As my longest run since early Summer has been about 10 miles, should I have done it?
Aching today, but it could have been much worse if the weather had been bad. Had planned to retire at Heptonstall, having forgotten it was no longer a checkpoint but luckily the ibuprofen started to work from there so managed to recover a bit of lost time and avoided a PW (by 27 minutes in the end). But whereas last year 6:50 was a doddle with a very gentle first 10 miles, this year's 7:30 was hard. Suppose I can take comfort that it's as fast as my debut - 23 years ago.

When I first started running cross country in the Army in the late 70s, we weren't allowed to wear anything other than gym pumps. Nike were frowned upon as being a bit unfair and 'flashy'. Only 6 or 7 miles per race, though.

How quickly do the results usually appear? The KCAC website appears to be down today.

Spotted a Tod lady in the 6 mile Roddlesworth race this morning with yesterday's Hobble in her legs - was going well too - good show I thought!

Wow, what a difference. This was my 2nd HH, last year I enjoyed a leisurely get-round run with my pal Bill - this year I entered to race the route and knocked 1 hour 25m off last year's time. Still had time to scoff biscuits, juice, a hot dog, donuts, currant buns and of course some whisky (not all at the Mankinoles CP though)
Many thanks to all the marshalls and helpers.
Does anyone know where the photos taken near the first checkpoint will turn up?
PS. Trafford 10k today was not much fun.
