Just checked forecast, it's near perfect for a local
    5mph wind variable
    No rain
    Possibly claggy
    6-10 degrees

Why on earth wouldn't a buff wouldn't be acceptable as a hat! If I carry an item that can only be used as a hat, it's usually one that's no thicker than a single layer of buff anyway, let alone in doubled-up form. And the hat has to be carried in addition to a waterproof jacket with a HOOD. Kit requirements for the skyline seem to be getting ever more ludicrous.

I have great sympathies for the good runner I spoke to during the week who decided not to do the skyline again when the requirement for a phone came in.

The reference on the MWIS Peak District forecast yesterday about the weather on the coastal fells has gone today! I guess most of the country must be flooded for parts of the Peak District to be on the coast.

I have to agree (but I think they'll let buffs go in these conditions), but your post reminds me I've gone and lost my wooly hat this week. So whilst I've got enough kit to keep me alive for a week up there, I'm going to have to find a hat from somewhere on a Saturday night...

Ah Glen that's very kind of you! I'll be milling around the hall looking miserable from around 9:45. That's unless I change the clock in the wrong direction!

OK, OK - what I should, of course, have said is "Possibly; it depends on whether, given the conditions and the RO's views on the day, your buff is substantial enough to be acceptable as a hat or not".

As IDP points out, however, probably worth bringing along a hat as well, just in case some officious jobsworth at kit check with nothing better to do with their time (me, for example) feels the buff in question is not hat-like enough to be acceptable, given the conditions and the RO's views on the day.

I look forward to a long line of entrants resplendent in knotted white handkerchiefs ...

P.S. I should also stress that I'm only here expressing the views of this particular non-buff wearing petty dictator, and not those of the race organiser, who probably hasn't as yet put a great deal of thought to whether a buff is a hat or not.
