I did an extra mile to add to my days training
Well one of my favourite races, a real cracker this one.
Well done to Karl Gray for breaking the course record, I thought it was ominous, whilst you were changing out of your cycling gear, you were telling me that you were just coming back from injury. Awesome, mind you I guess cycling 200 miles p/w helps, as does having your club colleagues breathing down your neck! Well done Helen Fines first lady.

Special thanks go out ot Manhar for lending me your whistle and compass (d'oh Clive) but massive thanks to Jason for helping off a stile as I'd decided to try and hang myself by left foot shoelace. I literally was stuck, right leg on the ground, left foot up on the top of the style on a nail! A Massive comedy moment, gutted Jason you didn't have a camera...... a good excuse for not doing a fast time if ever there was one!
Taking after Dave Collins Long Mynd experience of being on the lash for the previous 2 days, I got in this AM at 2, and after watching a Samuri film (?!?!?) bed at 3. Seemed to help me in the race although I bet I'll be grumpy later and dead for tomorrow's Cheshire Cat 100 sportive.
A nice bike back on Heights road to Hebden Bridge, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, life feels good.

Thank you to everybody for turning out today. This was our first organised race and it has tested us ( the results) but with great help from Jo Porter and Gav "the ferret " mullholand. we have managed to sort the results out. I hope to get the posted out soon.
Of course I wont forget all the Marshalls on the route, Edan who at last minute did the running of results for us and my mum great Aunt and uncle for making the brews!! we couldnt have done it without you all.
The record went today Karl " the just come from injury " gray ( how does he do it???) Helen fines won the ladies ( who has an injury) well done to then both.
Team prizes went to calder valley.
Hope you all had a great day. It was lovely to see all the kids out playing and having a fun time in this lovey weather... this is what it all about.

Well done to the Godsmans. I know that they were keen to take over running this race when Rod stepped down as organiser as they both love it. It was a great day and had a real friendly, fun atmosphere. Bumper entry of 123 runners. The weather picked up and got warmer which allowed the prizes to be presented on "The Lawn". The Créche worked really well. You can always tell this as you never see the kids as they are busy playing and making new mates. Fantastic result for both Karl Gray and Alex Whittem breaking the course record and to Helen Fines 1st lady and new recruit Heather Gardner placing second. The real joy for me was seeing Sharon's sister Jo getting a bottle of wine as part of the winning Calder ladies team. She was just so chuffed and this was the icing on the cake. It was worth all those race nerves afterall.
A terrific action-packed slide-show, really caught the atmosphere, including rather touching scenes at the end at the prize-giving when athletes transmuted back into normal people and parents. I didn't recognise one of those half-naked desperadoes once they had got their clothes on and were standing (or sitting) still. I was shocked at the beginning to notice quite a lot of runners actually running UPHILL! Isn't this against the rules? However, to judge from the agonised expressions on their faces the punishment was instantaneous. As usual it was almost exclusively the women who managed to look serene or even as if they were enjoying themselves. How do they do it?Originally Posted by Somewhere near the back
These slide-shows are the best possible propaganda for fell racing - I am currently resolving to train more on hills so as perhaps to join in next year.

Brilliant race! It was fast and furious after the first climb and my shins are a bit raw after all that heather! Thanks to the organisers, marshals and the kindly ladies who provided post race tea and biscuits.
